EHL 65 E Planer Discontinued

I also have the 65, and although I don't use it that often it does its work when I need it without problems.

Could be it's not the best one out there, I don't know, but I most certainly don't see anything about it that merits a label like "inferior".

+1 to Dean and Alex

I have a EHL65 with the conversion stand and it beats all previous small planers I've ever owned both in cut quality, ease of use and noise.

If only Festool made a sturdier/taller/adjustable angle fence for it in inverted planer mode so that one could more readily edge joint wider boards with it and do angles too... [scratch chin]

If I like a tool or hate a tool I say it as it is!

And I like the EHL65 I think its the best small hand held planer on the market nothing comes close.

I have tried Makita,Bosch, dewalt  etc non feel as light and small with enough power like the EHL65.

I too have the 65 without the plug it cord. I find the weight, power and balance perfect for all the tasks I have asked of it. I'm constantly surprised by the smooth cut quality, I find it very responsive to adjustments in depth of cut. I personally feel it's a shame it's discontinued in NA.

Shane has confirmed that the EHL65 is discontinued here in the US and at the current time there is not a replacement planned.  The ebay listing posted was for a non-North American model that has the plug it cord.  That seller seams willing to ship to the US so it would not seem that they are authorized dealers for Festool.

I used my EHL65 again yesterday ... shrinking a slightly swollen door back to size. It's perfect for those sorts of tasks - light and accurate, while being relatively quiet and clean.

By comparison I still have a Hitachi planer, it's a noisy messy pig ... just need to Ebay the thing. I'll grab an 850 soon too.

Well.. Received my EHL 65 today.... and I'm ticked OFF!

Hey Burns Tools...Next time you say you have a discontinued tool in stock, you might ALSO let your customers know that the unit that you are planning on shipping has been out on a demo table, scuffed up, and looks like crap. You might also tell your customer that the description of positioning of the unit in the systainer is torn to pieces... (AND DON'T BLAME THIS ON SHIPPING>>> THE TEARS ARE CLEARLY OLD!!!)

I'm keeping the unit because it actually works, and while clearly not in NEW condition, there aren't any others available, so I'm stuck. I can't even return it because I'm going back to Africa too soon to get it shipped back. BUT.... be clear. This is the one and ONLY time I will EVER do business with you, and I hope others will take my caveat to heart and be wary of your company!

Here;s what I got, though the pictures don't tell the whole story. It was even worse!  And don't believe that the scuffing was caused by shipping. The insert is BLACK.. .the scuff rubs are all white, and I didn't get a chance to take a picture of the bottom of the plane. The base had been sitting on some kind of wet spot where a circle had stained the metal and required extensive rubbing to remove. I'm totally ticked!

Never again.  (And I won't be wearing your free advertising T-Shirt. Wouldn't be kosher considering...) [mad]

As the old saying goes..." Fool me once, shame on you"... Forget the second time..."

Frank, rather than throw the toys out of the pram , why not just contact Burns Tools and work it out?   Ship it back today, and, if they have a new one, they can hold it for your return to the US or ship it to a neighbor or friend who could receive for you in your absence.

This really should only become an irritating transaction if they refuse to talk to you, or are evasive, or refuse to look into the problem.

Like I said... I'm keeping the unit because despite the esthetics, it works...and I don't want to have to spend my limited time in the U.S. playing post office and telephone tag.  I am mostly upset by the lack of attention to detail by the vendor who either did NOT inspect the unit prior to shipping, or just didn't give a damn.  I have only three days left in my U.S. house before having to go back to Africa for work, and won't be back here until early June, so this was disappointing to say the least.  I have chosen to bite the bullet; keep the machine; and just move on... though I won't be ordering any more product from this Dealer.

I have now ordered thousands of $$ worth of Festool products, and from multiple vendors including ToolNut, Bob's, Amazon, Performance, and my German dealer. I have never had anything even close to this level of condition with any other purchase.

I apologize to my fellow Festoolians if I have come off being over-the-top on this, but my blood pressure went through the roof when I opened that systainer.  Sorry. [sad]

[size=11pt]

Sorry Frank to read about this.  [sad]

As the dealer is now getting 'great publicity' here now on the FOG, I would be very surprised if they do not contact you.

As they advertised this deal via the FOG and similarly confirmed shipment, how stupid then not to check the planes condition prior to shipment.  [eek]

I see from their post above that they still have limited stock, so why send out the demo without a confirmed price reduction with a customer?

Frank,
I had an experience like this when I purchased a drill press from Amazon.
I would email Burns with the photo attached and request a replacement with a scheduled UPS pickup at your home for the tool you now have along with the UPS man having a peel and stick label to complete the return. If this is not possible for you, then request that the unit be discounted as a floor model.

Wow, ok, I am just seeing this now - the customer never contacted us to let us know there was an issue. Obviously we are taking care of this situation.

Frank,
The planer should not have been damaged, and I am sorry. We bought 30+ of these from a distributor in Canada because they were no longer available in the US, and obviously our shipper did not open yours before sending it out. I would like to issue a prepaid UPS call tag for that one...do you still have a box to send it back to us in?

If you still want the planer, I will inspect and get another one sent out to you (a NEW unused one, of course). Just let me know.

Thank you, and I apologize for this.

Sincerely,

Zach Burns

EVERYONE - We have these in stock, new, and this was a simple mistake. I take our reputation very seriously and I think even Festool would vouch for us. Here are reviews of our family business, which has been around since 1934:

I really wish Frank had just contacted us directly instead of taking to this forum to bash us...we always take care of our customers.

Look at it this way, Chris bashed you (which I don't feel he should have done without contacting you first, maybe it was the fumes from the av fuel that clouded his judgement) and you had the opportunity to prove publicly how great your care and service for/towards your customers is. Actions always speak louder that words.
