Let me start by saying that im no stranger to hand planers, or Festool quality. Just purchased the 65e to replace an(8yo) out of square Bosch. Out of the box, the 65e produced a hazy, clouded surface, instead of the glass I'm used to seeing w/ my Bosch. Any help please?

That is really strange, mine was immaculate out the box. Like Alan said, check the blade & possible take the blade out & turn it around & try again. If that works I would go back to your dealer & demand a new blade. It may be that the blade is not seated right but again I would doubt that.

Alan Alan Alan Oh dear oh dear oh dear! Let me make sure i am reading this correctly! Take the Blade OUT and TURN? TURN? it around? Do you own a EHL65 Woodguy? You should know you CAN NOT turn the blade around as its a single sided blade and can only only go in 1 way. My test pieces were standard 1.5" poplar face frame, and I always plane w/ the grain to prevent snipe. I did turn the workpiece and try that, but it made it worse. I always use moderate pace as well. The factory blades feel sharp enough. I have tried different removal depths as well. I had my lead guy give her a couple swipes on " demo day" for my employees, and got the same results.

How about a good picture of this "hazy, clouded surface" wood next to what you consider a glass smooth cut from the Bosch? Remember to keep the resolution to around 1024x768 so the picture is easily viewed by us.
This might help us help you better.

James, you are correct. I have never had to change my blade yet & am thinking of my old Bosch which had reversible blades. I should have known better, Festool wouldn't put a double sided blade in when they can just sell you another blade at double the price of their competitors [huh]

lol Well I would say YES you are correct festool only did it to make more money BUT I am afraid you are wrong again [tongue] [tongue] [poke] [poke] The reason they are only single sided is because the blades are curved which makes it impossible to be double sided as if you turn it around the curve would be going the wrong way.

I have the 850 planer, and it was perfect coming right out of the box. I haven't done anything to it at all, no adjustments, nothing.
Maybe a call to the service center might clear things up for you? I only have had one tool that had a problem coming out of the box, and it was a no-brainer for me. I called my dealer, he called Festool, Festool had me send it in immediately.
