I still have a few inches clearance w/ the stock filter bag.  But you bring up a good point, I'll have to make sure that the Wynn filter doesn't stand much higher.

Right now I think I may add a Thein baffle either in the unit or in an external can.  One of the neat mods I saw was to mount the blower directly in line w/ the filter housing rather than leave it mounted on the base and place a Thein baffled can directly under the now raised motor.  Allowed the addition of the baffle in a separate can w/o increasing the footprint of the unit.

The Wynn filter cartridge will shorten the unit.  If you measure from the top of the green collar, it's 21.25" to the top of the canister (canister itself is longer, but the rest is in the collar).

I also saw that modification you mention and thought it would be great for me.  Then I read someone's concern that maybe the bearings would have an issue being mounted horizontally so I didn't do it.  May not make a bit of difference, but I'm not a mechanical guy so I can't say if there is or isn't a difference.

There is absolutely no lack of good mods out there for it for any situation or layout.
