Ellen's Design Challenge - Season 2 - On Tonight

Steve, have you checked out Furniture & Cabinetmaking magazine from the UK ?  Its worth a look if you can get it over there or go for the digital option.

Thanks, Woodguy7, I'll look for that.

Also want to thank Ed Reno as I did subscribe to Dwell magazine.

BTW, a shame Bradley made the wrong finishing choice for his fire pit seating - he really had a very creative design.  Would have loved to see what else he would have come up with had he stayed around longer.

The show is pretty good despite the somewhat forced drama. It really is about the design process or lack and not about the building.
This weeks lack of woodworking didn't bother me as I am interested in how the contestants solve the design challenges.
That table was really well designed and it was amazing they pulled it off in the time allowed. The walnut trim on the legs was a nice detail.
I still can't figure out why Bradley couldn't make more than one of those stools.

He said it was taking too long to burn the boards. Too bad, if he could've made them all he probably would've been in the top two.

sad for bradley, how long does it take to burn wood seriously? batch out the wood and burn all at once gezzz.

He ignored the needs of "the customer" as it was described to him (the others all got it) and he effectively offered up a prototype ... the right person was chosen to leave!

Miles built a sweet table with that lifting mechanism - pulled off a great piece in 3 days.

Sef's table was pretty neat too - the mirrors to show the carving underneath was ingenious.

This year's contestants are heads and tails above the previous season's.  Some real talent.  Granted a different show, some of these guys would also have given Jory a run for his money.

Didn't post a reminder last week because I was traveling... New episode tonight.

Someone just about got hit by a chunk of lumber getting kicked out of a table saw last week. Whoa.  [scared]

Funny you should mention that - I was thinking at the time of seeing the accident that the time pressure to deliver puts risk in the the equation as people will take short cuts. Did one of the carpenters leave for "personal reasons" or did they leave because they thought it was an unsafe environment? [huh]

I was watching with my wife and said that doesn't look good and wham!.
Tim

I said the exact same thing right as it happened, Tim.

Kev, you make a good point about the time constraints of the competition and the use of power tools. But I don't recall it being at a moment where there was pressure to get done.

Yeah was telling my wife when power tools start sounding strained like that you better watch out because if you don't change what your doing your In for a surprise.

We should have a more of these ... how about ??

Oprah's Log Cabin Makeover Challenge

... and ... hmmm ... I'm trying to think of something appropriate with Jerry Springer in it - can't [embarassed]

Kev, how are you watching this (I assume from your first reply) from down here?

Vimeo .. but they're everywhere if you google "ellens design challenge s02e06" for example, you see lots of options.

I wonder where the pieces go after the show? Ellen's mansion? I'd take the cow table, just as a conversation piece.

You'd need to have a decent size paddock for it.
