Ok, you guys wanted back-to-back classes in the same week. Here's your opportunity to attend a cabinet construction and advanced router class in the same week.

Yes, another end-user training event!  Thank you for your interest.  Please let us know if you have any questions.

Course Description:
We are now calling for entries for a 2-day class focused on the practical application of the Festool Router System.  The class will take place at Festool's Training Center in Headerson, NV (just SE of Las Vegas), and will be primarily geared towards professional applications.

In this class, we will cover the full Festool router lineup, including the MFK 700, OF 1010, OF 1400, and OF 2200, as well as key system accessories such as the MFS, LR32 Hole boring system, and FS Guide rails.  Participants should expect to walk away with a range of broadly applicable skills, with emphasis on panelized doors, circles and arcs, cabinet shelf pins and hinge boring, inlays, fluting, and edge-banding, among others.

Participants will leave with an improved understanding of advanced routing techniques as they apply to trim carpentry, cabinet work, and furniture construction.  Real-world, application-based exercises will enhance the participant's understanding of how to efficiently employ the Festool Router System in the shop and on the jobsite.

Since most of the two days will be spent in the shop actually using the tools, we request that registrants have some previous knowledge of the Festool Router System, and/or the basics of trim carpentry, cabinet or furniture construction.

Though we expect to add classes geared toward novices in the future, this should be considered an intermediate to expert-level class.

What will I learn?

Precision in shop and on jobsite with Festool Routers
  • MFK 700 Trim router - Precision and flexibility
  • OF 1010 Plunge Router - Small in size, big on performance
  • OF 1400 Plunge Router - Our most versatile router
  • OF 2200 Plunge Router - A portable shaper

Enhanced efficiency with Festool System Components
  • Arcs, circles and raised panels with the Festool MFS system
  • Efficient cabinet construction with the LR 32 Hole boring system
  • Boring of hinge plates and shelf pins on cabinet sides
  • 35 mm Hinge boring on cabinet doors
  • Routing fluted columns with the Festool parallel guide
  • Clean and efficient edge banding with the MFK 700 and OF1010 plate systems
  • Routing grooves and slots with the OF 2200 and Plexiglas template
  • Precision routing with FS guide rails
  • Precision inlays with Festool Routers

How do I apply and how are participants selected?
If you are interested in participating, please click here to complete this online survey, and provide a few details about yourself.  If you have applied for previous end-user training events, you will need to re-apply for this one.

We will notify selected participants (as well as a handful of alternates) by email once selections are made. The one thing we ask of our selected participants is that you arrive on time and stick around for the full two days.  Since we're not charging for the class, you will lose nothing if you no-show, but it will mean that someone else misses out on a great opportunity.

Travel and Accommodations:
Participants are responsible for all travel and accommodations.  We will be glad to help you make hotel reservations at our preferred local establishment (Sunset Station).  And for those participants staying at that hotel, Festool will arrive for pick-up on both days at 7:30am.

Festool will provide basic refreshments (bagels and coffee) in the morning at our Training Center, and lunch will be provided both days.   There will be an offsite group dinner on the first night.  Festool will cover dinner, but participants are responsible for any alcohol.

Shane just the class (routers) and location that I wanted, but unfortunately booked for the next 2 months.

Hopefully you will offer this again during Jan/Feb

Thanks

Fred,

I believe we've booked all of the end user events for this year in Indy. I don't think we'll be doing any others until 2011.

Just signed up....I hope I get in as this would be an awesome class.  Also would like to see the new facility.

Darn,  things are finally slowing down enough at work that I could actually use some of the vacation time I have left - was hoping to attend the router class this year.  Oh well, maybe next year.

Thanks

Fred

Such a deal! Two marvelous classes with just one trip.

Last Friday the moment I saw the announcement I signed up for both classes. Yesterday I confirmed my interest in the classes.

Now the trick will be to stay calm, actually work of client's orders, until getting the e-mail asking for my credit card.

Everyone I have asked says the Sunset Station in Henderson is outstanding. It stands to reason Festool USA would partner with a nice place as the preferred hotel. It is wonderful Festool offers to facilitate reservations.

I will be at the router class and look forward to meeting other Festool users there.  I cannot wait!

Any chance that Festool would create an instructional DVD from the Advanced Router and Cabinet Making seminars for those who cannot attend?  I would pay money for something like that.  Thanks.

First, there is still at least one spot available in this class. Please complete the survey if you're interested.  Thanks.

Secondly... MB, I don't know that there is a plan to offer a DVD but we have discussed the possibility of web-based video broadcasts. This would lend itself to real-time Q&A sessions, for instance.

Personally I am thrilled to already being confirmed for both the router and cabinet classes in Las Vegas.

It is disappointing that neither class is full. As soon as I saw the announcements seats were available I offered cabinetmakers working for me the chance to attend with me.

Unfortunately all either have family obligations or will be installing jobs for clients the week of 8 November.

Bummer.  I got a message that spots were open for the Router class as soon as I booked my flights for the Cabinet Construction class.

Maybe just turn the Nov 8-9 training into a 24 hour marathon that cover cabinets and routers. [drooling]

Yipeee, I going to the router class.  Look forward to seeing Brian and Steve (Terrific Instructors) and all the attendees.

I consider myself so fortunate that I got my registration in for both the Cabinet and Advanced Router class early enough I could register. GPowers was a fellow trainee during the Cabinet Class, and he has marvelous photos on that thread.

Four of us attended both classes, so the three of us staying at Sunset Station had extra chances to bond during Wednesday. That was when Brian and Steve set up for the Router Class. One of us lives near Las Vegas and needed to actually return to work that Wednesday.

Of course Steve B and Brian S are talented and experienced trainers. They were using Festools before they were hired. All of the trainees brought experience and diverse experience to the classes. Perhaps the concept of "Synergy" has been over-used these past 39 years, which does not mean the principles of synergy is ineffective even if the work has become trite.

As I explain synergy, I use a story: If I meet a stranger and we exchange dollar bills, we each end up with the same amount of money. However, if I meet a stranger and we exchange one idea each, we both have gained one idea. During a synergetic training course each of us should be able to contribute many practical ideas. Under the leadership of our trainers we can evaluate these ideas, so we only keep the ones we believe will be best for us. Funny thing is if we use our brains, we do not forget the other ideas. Often after a period of reflection back home, we can tweak ideas that at first did not appear effective.

The four great fellows who only had the time to attend Cabinet class all made valuable points. Then on Thursday morning we had the chance to meet other Festool router fans. Best of all, those of us who attended both classes had the chance to work along side a different fellow in each class.

Unfortunately for Router we did not have GPowers to take the pictures. I had my less advanced digital camera, so I took more photos of Router than I had during Cabinet. Now I need to go back to the FAQ and do a topic search because I am sure there is a tutorial explaining how to move my digital photos from my hard drive to a server so they can be linked to FOG. This will become my next project.

In Router I was so fortunate to be teamed with Joe E, a man of a certain age, talented in more than one profession and passionate about working in wood with Festools. We had the chance to bond during class meals and protracted talks on our own at breakfast and dinner. Yes, Sunset Stations has a far above average all you can eat buffet. The benefit of staying over Friday night was that Friday evening is Crab madness at the Buffet! Joe does not appear to be near my weight, but he did manage to eat a decent share of those crabs! In my service days we used to describe good duty as a mixture of good chow and good liberty.

Look, I am not taking anything away from classes in Indiana, but in Las Vegas Liberty starts the moment class concludes. The chow included with class is very generous, but if you cannot find chow you enjoy on your own in Las Vegas, that is your own darn fault!

Oh, yes, Steve provided each of us with a generous plank of maple. In our selection of router bits we were impressed with a 2" (50mm) round-over bit with 1/2" shank. Once we progressed past the MKF 700, the OF 1010, the OF 1400, we pulled new OF 2200 and installed those big bits and 36mm hoses. Everything we know about the 2200 is true. The 2200s handled that task as if the maple was butter. The finish did not need sanding. Very impressive.
