Hi Guys, I made this for my girlfriend for Christmas day. I'm going to propose to her Christmas morning after her breaking my heart the last two years looking for a ring.

Its made from solid cherry and received three coats of Danish oil.

I free hand routed every bit of it with the OF 1010 and cut the top and bottom with the kapex. I used a 50mm 16gauge pin as the piviot for the wooden hinge.

I hade a wide pice of cherry 120mm wide and 400mm long. I marked the top one side and the bottom on the other side.

I then marked the hinges on the back of each piece and penciled in the bits I was routing out. Also on the top of the box you need to rout out the perimeter the same depth of the hinge and then route out the middle to the required depth.

Do the same with the bottom only you route out the opposite side of the hinge and the middle. You don't route the edge as I did on the top.

Once all the routing is done a quick sand and put it together and hammer in a 16ga 50mm long pin.

Hope that makes sense?!

congratulations.
im sure she will love it.
the hand made box is a nice touch.
im sure she will love it

Thanks Alan. It was very quickly made to be honest. No great deal of thought went into it. Just wanted to make a box for it so she has a keepsake afterwards and it looks a lot nicer than a plastic box.

HOLD ON!!!!  WAIT A MINUTE!!!!!!  a word of advice.......buy a buncha tools NOW while you're still free!  tools are like guns.....you need to have enough of them so that your wife doesn't notice when you add a few or take a few away.    [wink]

Maybe round the corners a little more - depending on how the next fifty years go, those corners could leave a nasty dent in your head ... always plan ahead  [big grin]

Nice work !

Very  romantic,I think your girlfiend is going to be very suprised, it has to be the last thing you would expect in a wooden box,the look on her face will be priceless..

Thanks guys. I already bought a Kapex and TS 55 R with various blades etc. the last few months along with other tools!
She even said to her sister in law last night she knows well I didn't buy her a ring! She will get some shock on two days!!  [big grin]

I do hope you didn't ruin the surprise by posting this on a publically visible forum - never know what might turn up in a Google search...

Good luck!

;D

Dammit, now I don't know to check if Santa's been or check for your result first  ???

I have inside a cardboard box full of planer shavings so she will have to rummage around for her surprise in the morning! She's going mad wondering what is in the big box  [big grin]
