Attempting to learn the differences between this older model and the newer ETS.

Short story, jumped on the Festool train when they were just starting to be sold in the USA.
Life got in the way and WWing was left behind for 20+/- years.

Recently replaced the pad on the 125…which meant all the old paper doesn’t match up any more…. Also new pad on the old DTS400 as well.

That said, what else might have changed over the years in the 125 finishing models ?

Recently picked up an RTS400 which I really like. Snagging a 125 Rotex tomorrow.

Still have the old TS55 and two lengths of track. Added a 1400 and a Domino to the mix recently.
As John Wick would say, yeah, I think I’m back. 👍👍😂😂

The original DTS 400 & ETS 125 had 200 watt motors, the newer versions are rated at 250 watts. Believe it or not, the increase in power does make the new ETS 125 slightly more aggressive with coarse grits.

The old versions had 3/4 ribbed hose connections while the newer versions have a locking bayonet connection which is a magnet for dust collection. Once the hose is disconnected, the dust then promptly falls on the floor/rug.  [sad]

The early versions used a plastic sanding bag frame with paper collection bags. The later models use a reuseable/cleanable cloth collection bag.

I've found that the hose-mounted bluetooth button helps with this significantly.  Unlock the hose from the tool and hit the button as you slide the hose off of the bayonet, and it should grab nearly 95% of the cake as you pull.

Ron, thanks for the reply. What I have found is the old papers hole radius is different than the new. With the old paper only the pad mounting screws are visible. None of the sanding ports. Wish the story was different. Perhaps because my 125 is so old ?
Talked to Festool and the old pad part number had been superseded with the later generation.

Thanks for all the help, guys. Indeed, I've have learned quite a bit. The link was very informative. Explaining the "new" sanders and the changes.

Have the old hose inn use and recently purchased a new spiral to add to the collection. Big difference in the ends as you pointed out. The newer hose is a bit tougher to slid over the ribs, but it can be done.
