After reading this forum and others - is it safe to say that the ETS 150/3 would be a good first Festool sander purchase?  I would be using it for different woodworking projects (i.e., tables, shelves, etc.) and some light remodeling projects (smoothing out wood surfaces in preparation for paint) around the house.

So far I have the Domino and plan on purchasing the CT22 this week - possibly one of the "package deals" that contains the sander.  Thanks.

I apologize to everyone if I put the above listed topic under the wrong heading.  Maybe I should have posted it under "General Discussion".  Sorry if I made a mistake - I'm new to forums.

Hey Rob,
You can't go wrong with the ETS 150/3.  Its my "go to" sander.  I also have the Rotex for really aggressive work or polishing, but the 150/3 gets a lot more work!  CT22 is a good choice, too!!

Rob - The 150/3 would make an excellent choice for your first Festool sander.  Almost everyone that has one, including me, says the 150/3 is the best finishing sander they have used.  There is no reason to hesitiate buying the 150/3.  You will want the CT22 to use with both tools, so buy the package deal.

I first bought an RO125 a couple of years ago along with a CT22 -- I was over-joyed by how well it performs. I recently bought a ETS 150 and it is now my favorite tool. It is very smooth, easy to manuver and I think you should buy it as your first sander. You will not be disappointed, especially with the CT22 package.

Good luck

Rob - I can't say anything but ditto to the other posts.  Get it with the CT-22, they are a great pair and the dust extraction is unbelievable.

Thank you to everyone for your advice.  Indeed, this morning after the 4 kids were off to school I went to the local Woodcraft store and purchased the CT22 and ETS 150/3 package.  I look forward to using them.

Proud Festool owner of Domino, CT22, & ETS150/3.  Looking forward to maybe a MFT and TS55 in the fall.

Rob,
Thanks for posting your question.  This is something many new customers are curious about.  Festool makes a lot of sanders, and sometimes the choices can feel a bit confusing, so it's good to jump in and post a question to those of us who have used the tools.

I happen to have the 150/5 sander, which I bought in a package deal way back when I first got into Festool tools.  It was the only Festool sander I used for a while.  But I eventually added the RO 125 and RO 150 sanders to my shop, and on many occasions have wondered whether I should have bought the 150/3 instead.  It's not that the 150/5 is a bad sander -- it's a great sander -- but I think the 150/3 might be more of a good partner for the Rotex sanders.

Please report back after you've had a chance to use the sander and CT22.

By the way, you posted in exactly the right place and with a fine heading!  And anyway, even if it was "wrong," that's no big deal.  It's more important for people to feel comfortable posting!

Also, please post about your tool-buying experiences in the two discussions about dealers:

I bought the ETS 150/3 sander as my first Festool sander.  My previous experience was with Dewalt ROS and 1/4 sheet sanders.  The ETS is fantastic and as soon as I put it to a piece of wood, I knew it was a worthwile purchase.  Combined with the CT 22 it's smooth, quiet, doesn't bounce and has near perfect dust extraction.  I look forward to sanding.

I'll have to agree!!!

Why not pile one.  I love my 150/3.  Super smooth, a joy to use.  I also have the RO150, and RS2e and an RS400.  The RS2e is the nicest of all, but the 150/3 is very close...joe
