Hi all,
given Festool is discontinuing the BS 105 E, I have decided to get one while stocks are still around.

Originally, I wanted the BS105, so got a broken one for repair from friend but it turned out it was a write-off.. So in for a new one.

My main question is, what are the advantages of the BS 105 E versus the BS 75 E (set versions assumed) and vice versa ?

What does the 75 E do that is not practical with the 105 E ? What does the BS 105 E do that is not practical with the 75 E ?

E.g. does the 105 mm width help significantly when working on, say, 4" wide stock ?

My "main use" is pretty much undefined. Expect to stick with it the next 10yrs and likely more. Some small flooring work is already lined up, some beams flattening likely too.

Rest is up to the future. Expect 90% use to be with the frame.

How do you know the BS 105 is getting discontinued? Is there some list I can subscribe to of 'soon to be discontinued' Festool stuff?

Well, on small stock the BS 105 is just more weight and more bulk, but on big surfaces the BS 105 has the advantage.

EDIT: It is already discontinued?

It is off the catalog and there are last few pieces left on the market. I have nothing official but my retailer noted they just managed to grab last few pieces via resell from Germany (no longer from Festool).

One can guess how long the BS 75 will stay.

Do you know if they list 'to be discontinued' stuff somewhere? I hate it when stuff that I have on my list suddenly is sold out and never comes back. Like the CMS jigsaw module... which I ultimately bought as a box full of spare parts and assembled myself..

Sorry, no.

I too think they should publish this, at least once it is firmly decided, say during the last year of expected sales as kind of a "EOL plan".

But understand why they do not - people expect discounts on "discontinued" items so they can have difficulty to sell remaining stock if announced too soon.

What bothers me more is one cannot find information on discontinued tools on the website. They sorely lack an "archive" section there.

I like the idea of EOL plan. A planned phase out.
This will let customers act, so with dealers who either have customers or who sees potential and are willing to up-stock. (I know one Swedish dealer who do..)

To the topic. I’m considering a BS75.. although after I’m finished with what I’ll do with it, it’ll probably sit idle - eventually put up for sale.
The BS105 is big, very big. From what I’ve seen, these are for flooring company’s and those who process slabs.
I haven’t seen the dealer I use (which is large in these areas) have had one in stock for a very long time. Even BS75 (or Bosch equivalent) moves slowly on the second hand market.
If you plan to sell later (after it’s obsolete), it could bring high value in return, or you need to dump it. If you plan a long journey, no stress at all  [big grin]

I don't think so. EOL items from Festool tend to go balistic in price as soon as people eyeing a certain machine find out it's EOL, all stocks are sold out very rapidly.

When the OF 2000 e/1 was being phased out for the OF 2200, the price dropped to pretty bargain prices, but it was also being replaced by something newer and bigger and badder.

With the CMS, Vac-SYS, and RAS 115 (I saw one for almost 2 grand on eBay the other day), there's no modern replacement and the category itself is what is EOL.  That said, people do definitely think that they should be able to get a TS55 REQ for less than a TS55 FEQ, or the TSC-55 cheaper than the TSC-55K, and I can't say I blame them.  The old models definitely haven't gone up in price on the open market other than in areas where there was no stock to be had (see also: TS75).

The TS 55's are also a case where it there was a seamless transition to the new item being in stockl
