I've had a similar pen for years now. Mine is a Cross Tech 3+, a really wonderful pen. More recently I added a Fischer Space pen to my EDC, because the Cross is too long to fit in the pouch.

I'm not Oliver, but that looks like a Stryder SNG. I'll let him chime in though because I'm curious as well.

Wow, I had no idea this style/type of pen existed until a week ago.  I was only familiar with these bulky 4-in-1 Bic pens, which doesn't include a pencil.

The Cross Tech 3+ is especially cool because the end works as a stylus for your phone or tablet.

About 2 years ago I got interested in lock picking.  I made a post about it:https://www.festoolownersgroup.com/general-friendly-chat/locksport-lock-pick-board/.  I haven't done much with it over the past year - I should see if I'm still able to pick the locks open.

I'd never have thought of carrying a whistle with me, but it makes perfect sense if you might be crawling around alone in a crawlspace or pipe or something like that.  Was your colleague lucky enough to have a whistle with him when he broke his leg?

A friend of mine always wore a whistle around her neck for those kinds of situations. About 35 years ago in her late 50s, she was mowing pasture with a tractor and Brush Hog and flipped the tractor and took her leg off just above the knee. She took off her belt, made a tourniquet and kept blowing on her whistle until one of her neighbors heard and found her. She was one tough old lady.

I've had some real adventures with lockpicking over the years. Sometimes (in the past) I was hired to do Red Team or Tiger Team attacks. Especially with more experienced IT crowd it was always the physical stuff that got them in the end. Even when they had their systems hardened properly (which didn't happen too often, sadly) there was always an out-of-the-box physical or social approach that got me or a colleague in.

Those (and similar) picks have more than once helped me help others that were locked out or that couldn't open some lock anymore. One time I even managed to open a supposed high-security vault before the owner (a guy with lots of gold embroidery on his shoulders) could get his spare keys from home.  [eek]  You should have seen his face when he returned! [jawdrop] [scratch chin] He really didn't know if he should be glad or very very angry...  [big grin] I can promise you the talk he had with the company that installed that vault wasn't a happy one!

Yeah, my colleague was really lucky that day. He was in a large silo repairing pipes. He fell from the scaffolding and broke his leg. Other workers heard his whistle and found him. They brought him to the hospital and after about 6 weeks he was working again. Until then I had never thought about an emergency whistle, but his story made me think about it. From then on I've always had one on me. Well, except when I have to wear a suit (no EDC on my belt then).

Hello guys,
Which one is the best flashlight for the EDC kit? Pen or small flashlight? Is it a pen flashlight enough to light up in an emergency situation? I have checked for Takeflight Flashlight, It's the best tactical flashlight to carry in EDC. Is there anyone who using this pen flashlight?

I am really glad with the LEDLenser P2. It is short and thin enough to fit into the loop of my pouch with the flap closed. It gives sufficient light for most situations, and the focussing trick where the beam has no "halo" is really neat. I do wish it would be somewhat more efficient with batteries, but I manage to get some 9 to 10 hours out of it (1 AAA). I've been using it for a couple of years now and it has never failed me once. This is the first flashlight that proved to be reliable over such a period of reasonably intensive use. I have no reservations at all recommending it.

The original BIC 4-Color pen had a ball-shaped appendage at the top.  That was used as a device for dialing rotary phones.  BIC kept that in place long after rotary dial phones disappeared because of the public outcry when they went to remove it. 

Fischer Space Pen makes refills that fit other pens.  I now have a Zebra F701 to which I retro-fitted a Fischer refill.  The pen has a nylon bushing at the tip that is too tight for the Fischer refill.  Others recommend drilling it out to make for a good fit.  Instead I stretched out the hole a bit with a narrow awl.  It was too tight for a long while, but it eventually wore in.  The pen is very nice.  The Fischer refill makes it much nicer.

I currently carry an Olight Warrior Mini, mostly because the color matches the pen and it fits in the belt organizer that I wear.  Before that I carried a Streamlight Microstream in my pocket, which runs on 1 AAA battery.  I love how small that flashlight is and it runs on a common AAA battery.  Last year, I bought a Streamlight Microstream USB, which is ever so slightly longer than the original Microstream, but is rechargeable and is brighter than the AAA version.  I also bought a Streamlight Macrostream USB.  This is a little bigger and brighter than the Microstreams.

Wow I had no idea the end of that Bic pen was for dialing a rotary phone.  Very cool!  My grandparents had a rotary phone in the basement.  It was fun to turn the dial to call someone, it was just like I had seen in old tv shows/movies.

BIC made an interim version that had a hole in the "ball" to tie it onto a fixed anchor. 

They now offer a stylus version.

I cannot find an image of the version that offended so many BIC users.  It is like they vanished entirely.  As I recall they were available for about one year.
