In the midst of a mass shop overhaul right now. Spent a couple hours the other day setting up this little rig. It will save me lots of hours going forward. This one is the shop based fastener vault, there is another mobile unit that goes out to jobs with smaller quantities.

Too many times last year I said: "hmm...somewhere in my life I have some 8d's..."

Thought I'd share this for others looking for a fastener solution. The little cardboard boxes kind of don't cut it in terms of storage.

That is awesome, Scott!

When I was a kid, my father had every fastener and cable connector we ever needed - in a WW 2 ammo box.

Every time we needed something, he would tell me exactly what it was and I had to either fish through or dump that thing out. Fishing through was less involved but meant "poking". I always tried to fish but commonly had to just dump the whole thing.

I am now very fond of proper organization...

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Following Tom,

a mechanic I knew kept all the misc. small fasteners in an old wool blanket which he let slump into a 5 gallon bucket. When he wanted a nut he hauled the blanket out of the bucket and spread it out on the shop floor. With a sweep of his hand he leveled the pile and then found what he wanted surprisingly quickly.

Thanks guys, yes it is totally a matter of finding a set up that works. My previous one had not been working well for quite some time.

Hope everyone is having a great holiday!

omg,  memories just flooded of when I was a kid working for my dad.  He did teach me to use a long bolt to move stuff around so as not to get poked. But more often than not, dumped the thing out. he needed what he needed NOW and at that age it just gave me something to do while waiting to be the next "hey boy"  lol
