Father's Day - Freeform Thread

Father' Day is approaching for those in the US, Canada, and the UK.  Others will have their time later.

Father's Day was envisioned as a day to say thank you to Dads.

This thread is designed to be a place to say what you wish you would get for Father's Day, a place to post remembrances and experiences with Fathers, etc.  Anything you wish regarding Dads.

We have had great responses in these types of threads...  have at it!

When I was a 16 year old kid, just 2 weeks after receiving my drivers license, I rolled my Pop's car.  No one was hurt, but the car was a totaled.  My dad had full insurance, the car was replaced.  But as dad saw it, my own negligence wrecked the car.  It was life - lesson time.

He required me to pay for the new car, in full.  I got a job at the local school district sweeping floors, painting, fixing, and generally learning a whole lot of odds and ends.  After 2 years of work, I paid off that car the summer before I went off to college.  I took that car with me as a gift from my Dad.

My old man taught me the value of good honest work and I will forever be grateful.

I have a double celebration coming up on Sunday as it is my eldest son's 4th birthday, and my Dad will be visiting us from England.

So it will be Fathers' Day all round!

Happy fathers day to all the dads! Sometimes it isn't easy being a father, we don't have all the answers and we don't always say or do the right things with our kids. I just want to do as good a job as my dad with me and my brothers and sisters, I think we turned out pretty good. Happy fathers day dad, wish u were here!

I'm happy and proud to say that I owe my dad gratitude for the same thing.

He's been gone thirteen years now, but I still feel as if he's looking over my shoulder. I frequently wonder what he would do in a situation, and what he would think of how I'm handling it.

I can only hope that my kids will have the same lasting thoughts of me.

You were lucky we lived for three months in a brown paper bag in a septic tank We used to have to get up at 6 oclock in the morning,eat a crust of stale bread go to work down mill for 14 hours a day week in week out and when we got home our dad  would thrash us to sleep with his belt.

Happy Father's Day!

I have shared before on the forum that I was exposed to woodworking as a child.  My father made some furniture but mostly custom cabinetry.  So I got sawdust in my blood at an early age.  Even now in retirement he is always building something or doing small remodeling projects around the house.

I owe so much to my dad for being and continuing to be a mentor, a role model and an inspiration. Hopefully, one day my three boys will say the same about me.
