FEBRUARY 2009: Fine Woodworking DVD!

Hello,
A new month, and a whole new contest concept!

As you know, Festool USA has sponsored some of our tool contests, and Festool dealers have also sponsor some contests. Well, I'm always trying to find new ways to pleasantly surprise our members. So this month, I've been in touch with Fine Woodworking magazine, and we have worked out a generous sponsorship for this month's FOG contest.

As always, we try to keep the rules simple.

Here are the details:
Contest Theme: Jigs and inventions.
Prize: Fine Woodworking Archive DVD (click here to learn more about it).
How to Enter: All projects posted in the "Festool Jigs, Inventions, Tool Enhancements" board are automatically eligible. Just post a jig or tool invention. You do not have to do anything else.
Selecting a Winner: The winner will be chosen by the staff of Fine Woodworking magazine, and will be announced on March 1, 2009.

This is an opportunity to build a positive connection between our forum and a classic woodworking magazine. It is also an opportunity for ideas in the FOG to be noticed by an even wider audience.

Good question. I'll have to check on this. We do have at least one person from Taunton (publisher of Fine Woodworking) who will be joining the discussion soon.

In perusing that lengthy subset of threads today, I see many that I would nominate if I was a member of FWW. I am a charter subscriber to FWW and have all the issues in my collection, as well as several of their woodworking books.

I have some ideas, but don't know if I will be able to get around to building and illustrating them this month.

It will not be easy showing a jig that the guys at FWW have not seen or thought of.

Certainly true, and especially if FWW is looking for something that is universally applicable rather than centered on or requiring use of Festool products. My interest is in jigs, inventions and enhancements designed to work with the Festool systems.

It would be helpful if FWW would clarify their criteria up front.

Actually, I did not think of that. This is a Festool forum so hopefully they are expecting something along those lines. I think I may have a jig for the contest that I have been working on, but it is based on an MFT and may be hard to appreciate for someone that has never used let alone seen an MFT.

Good Morning,
I believe they are interested in seeing the jigs we have been creating so far. I think it would be very interesting to Fine Woodworking readers to see what we do with Festool tools, and the kinds of jigs we come up with.

However, we will have someone from Fine Woodworking coming by at some point to fill us in some more.

Looking forward to seeing more jigs!

Like Nick, I am thinking primarily of jigs and setups that are designed for use with MFTs. Further adaptation would be required to use them without MFTs.

Hello all! My name is Missy Robinson and I am the Marketing Manager for Fine Woodworking. We here at Fine Woodworking are excited to see what clever Jigs you have that help you get the most from your Festool Tools. The anticipated use for any given power tool is only a small portion of what it can actually accomplish in the shop when coupled with an innovative jig. Yes we have seen a lot but I?m sure someone out there can still surprise us so step up to the plate and show us what you?ve got!

I saw a post in regards to international participation and the answer to that would be of course!

Thanks for that clarification.

If I get a chance to build and document my idea, it will involve both Festool and non-Festool products. I thought of it because I do not own certain Festool products, and think many others face the same issues.

Good Morning,
The focus here should just be on imagining, building, and documenting great jigs. Let's keep it simple.

Just keep creating the kinds of jigs you have created before. Or if you've had a great concept in mind for a while, maybe this is the time to finally put it together and document it!

As always, these contests are meant to be an inspiration. I don't want us to get caught up in the details.

Let's see the jigs!

Good Morning,
We have a winner!

Sorry for the delay in announcing the winner this month. But as you know, there are a lot of amazing jigs posted in this forum, which made the decision rather difficult.

The experts at Taunton have reviewed all the jigs posted in the FOG, and they have made their choice...

The winner is Mortise jig for OF 1400 router, which was created by Pete Pedisich.

Congratulations Pete on a well-deserved win! Enjoy the DVD, provided courtesy of Fine Woodworking magazine.
