Sorry for my ignorance, but what exactly is Festo to Festool? I wrongly assumed that Festool was a new company formed from taking over Festo and Protool, but I'm now thinking I was adding 2+2 and got 5.

Tooltechnics is the company that is made up of several other companies:

Festo - Robotics and automation
Festool - Power Tools
Tanos - Storage solutions
Schneider - Pneumatics
ProTool - Power Tools
Narex - Power Tools -Not Narex hand tools

I see. So Festo used to make handheld power tools but stopped and focussed on robotics and Festool was born?

Festo was always an automation/pneumatics supplier. I spec'ed their valves & connectors into various machine tools & capital equipment over 40 years ago. 
At some point they manufactured tools and then at some other time, they decided to refocus on pneumatics and that's probably when Festool was born?

The only reason I became interested in Festool tools, is because I remembered how good and trouble free Festo pneumatic components were.
