Festo Rotex RO 150 E

A local auction site has a Festo RO 150 E for sale - here is the photo supplied. Can anyone tell me how this model compares to the latest. I understand the latest model has a changeable pad for polishing. Did this older model have that, and if so, would the parts still be available. It appears that what you see is what you get.

A Rotex is on my shopping list, and I was inclined to go for the 125 rather than the 150, but I am also inclining to the view that with a new 125, and a 2nd hand 150, I really can't go wrong. Afterall, you can't ever have too many Festools.

I've got one that I bought in near-new condition from a Festool dealer in Virginia. It was his demo model. I'm a little weak on Festool facts, but I know that the RO 150 E is a dual mode sander. With options for Random Orbital, or just Rotational modes of operation. The Random Orbital mode is 5mm, making it slightly coarser than the newer models. This translates into a machine slightly less suited to ultra fine finishing.

The RO 150 E has a much higher profile. The newer models might be sleeker and perhaps a bit more ergonomic, but I've heard that the downside of the more compact motor housing is hotter running temperatures. Oh, and being older, it doesn't have the quick-disconnect power cord like newer versions.

  Also, the older Rotex does not have a "tool-less" pad change, uses an allen screw - only takes a few seconds longer though.

Looking closer at the photo, it also occurs to me that there is no visable signs of any dust collection system. Does the RO 150 provide dust collection?

Yes, it has the same 9 hole pattern and uses the same papers that the newer RO 150 as well as the ETS 150's use.
