Does anyone know of an existing adapter that will enable me to use my shop vac which has a 2.5" hose with a TS55 equipped with a 27mm hose? I would just buy a CT dust extractor and avoid the whole issue but I already own a 1HP dust collector and a 12 gallon Stainless Steel 6.5 "peak" HP Shop Vac. Plus I have no more room in my cramped shop. Can anyone offer some guidance here? Any advice will be much appreciated!

There exists an international standard for shop vac fittings. Festool 27mm and 36mm hoses have the special tool end. The other end, intended to attach to the CT or vac, is the international standard. Both ends of the Festool 50mm hose are the international standard.

Thus the vac end of your 27mm hose will fit in your shop vac. Of course it is possible you have a non-standard shop vac.

Last time I was in there Lowes and Home Depot both had bins full of different rubber shop vac fittings that neck the hoses up and down in size.

Hey BarBuilder,

I picked this up at Homedepot or Lowes.    It's rubber so you can cut it for a perfect fit.   I have about 5 laying around my shop.
It's a shop-vac part number 90687

1", 1 1/4", 1 1/2", 2",  2 1/2" external diameters.

Hope that helps you out.

Thanks for the input guys, it is appreciated. According to Bob Marino if I order a Festool hose for my shop-vac, the non-tool end should plug right in as it is the industry standard size. I guess we'll see when I get it.

I bought the Festool 452884 Suction hose D36 antistatic - D 36x5m-AS.

I have a Makita vac with a standard port.

The Festool hose was slightly smaller, I ended up wrapping electrical tape 10 times around to get a snug fit.

I would therefore suggest that perhaps the festool 36 hose is not "standard" these days.

I have a Ridgid brand shop-vac-type hose that I regularly use with my CT when combining with non-Festools or when sweeping up the floor - the hoses are compatible both ways.

You may find that the shop vac solution is insufficient when combined with Festool's sanders, as you probably don't have the ability to reduce the suction, but if you are using with a saw or router or something you shoud be able to get away with that in a pinch.  It won't be optimal, but it's better than nothing.

I have a Festool 27mm anti static hose and a 35 mm non-anti static hose in my small basement workshop. I connect one hose at a time to my C22 Festool dust collector.

Out in the garage I have a Shop Vac that has hose with a 2 1/4" inside diameter and a 2 1/2" outside diameter.

From Lee Valley in Canada  (leevalley.com) I purchased a 2 1/2" splice - cost $2. I put this on the end of my Shop Vac hose and then connect either of my Festool hoses.

I couldn't justify another Festool dust collector as I am a hobbyist and just break down sheet goods outside to bring into my small basement shop.

Lee Valley also sells in the United States. They also sell other 2 1/2" dust collector fittings.

Cheers,
Alex

Oops! I should have put the part number for the 2 1/2" splice hose connector from Lee Valley in my previous post.
The part number is 03J6085.

Got to hand it to a guy that lives in the Yukon and breaks down sheet goods outside.  Much better man than me.
