FESTOOL 576200 OF1010 EQ ROUTER 1/4 to 1/2 collet adapter?

Hi all, I’ve ordered the OF1010 router but was wondering if there is an adapter that will allow me to use 1/2 inch router bits (as the ones I need come in 1/2 inch shank only)

Is this feasible or is it a dumb idea?

Google collet extension for engraving, there may be something that large available. Runout however may be an issue.  [sad]

Thanks for the reply, the reason im asking is I build decks and i kerf the facia boards so that they can be bent to form a rounded deck, What I need is a way to trim the top boards flush with the facia boards with the router.

The boards are 30mm thick but every bit I can find is less than that unless it’s 1/2 shank

Any ideas

There is probably a reason it did not include a 1/2" collet. Get a bigger router.

Never do this. The 1010 router is not for 1/2 inch bits.

No one makes such a thing.    Festool would be more than happy to sell you an overpriced collet. 

It's simply not possible.  The spindle won't even allow a 1/2' shank inside it, let alone a collet.

Hmmm...this is a tough crowd. [big grin]  My thought was that if you're in a pinch, an engraving extension may be a viable alternative if one is offered and more importantly, if it's of a suitable quality.  I don't know...never used one but for a quick fix, it may be an alternative. However inherent in that statement is that if this is something that you need on a repetitive basis then there are better/safer alternatives. Enter the larger router.

My first vision was this...a Festool router bit on the LH side designed for a 1010 router and a standard Bosch 1/2" router bit on the RH side. Which one would you feel most comfortable about spinning up to 24,000 RPM on a 1010 router? The 1/2" shank issue kind of recedes into the background...

Here's another consideration, an Amana 8 mm compression spiral bit 71 mm long. Could be guided by hand or by a template.

I'd call them and ask why they suggest it's for use only in a CNC machine.

As squall-line said, it’s probably a 8 mm collet. That’s the reason I suggested the 8 mm extended length bit.

Sorry to all the Pros here, me being a Noob! i now have colletts for 6mm and 8mm bits not 1/2

saw this on Amazon, but the reviews are rubbish, but this is what im looking for:
