Festool A Friend: Get a 10% rebate when you tell your friends about Festool

I'm not sure how this promotion is even tractable from Festool's perspective.

You could:

a) buy single power tool in cash
b) buy $6k worth of festool stuff for yourself (so, you know, like 2 or 3 things...)

submit receipts for yourself and a 'friend' (e.g. non-existent neighbor, 90 year old grandpa...) and get 10% back

heck, you could just return (a) once you have a copy of the proof of purchase, most don't have serial numbers on them.

People are commenting on how this doesn't seem like a great deal for your friend, so no commentary on the program rules themselves, just pointing out that based on Festool's submission requirements, this seems full of loopholes (learning this from years on deals sites and the hoops folks jump through to save a buck.  This one seems pretty strange)

edit: apparently the forum blocks site names....so 'deal sites' it is....

So what would be the cheapest tool that qualifies one would have to get my new wood working friend to buy so that I could get the discount on my tool? This is what it all boils down to. Right

CXS drill or new TXS drill? Certainly the cheapest power tool to qualify I am sure has ran through many minds. May be better to think cheapest power tool "you need" may be a better thought. For me, I already have a Festool drill, I would be better off getting a sander. This way my friend is not just spending money foolishly to qualify me

I am actually really surprised that the whole promotion has not been reworked and rereleased. Tyler said they were listening. Maybe he meant for the next promotion they are going to offer in Feb. Maybe come Feb 1 they run a new deal after the price increases take effect. Prices go up 15% and instead of friends, you have to get total strangers to buy a power tool/extractor combo to qualify you for 10% off. Win/win, well for Festool anyway, haha.

For a limited time, we’re giving Festool users in the US and Canada (excluding Quebec)

As curious an offer as this already is, why is Quebec excluded? [eek]

It's pretty common Cheese. Pretty much every contest or special promotion in Canada excludes Quebec. Not 100% sure, but I think it has something to do with the laws in Quebec when it comes to contests, etc. I could add all sorts of other reasons, but fear my sense of humour will get lost in translation, and as this is a fairly PC forum will stop there. Does kinda suck for them. I'm sure Festool has given them some type of special "Get your soon to be former friend to buy a tool, get 10% off" promotion en francais.

They already mailed me (and I assume many of you) via snail mail, it'd be confusing to change it mid-promotion for those who haven't clicked on this thread.

It is like a game of chess.
And one should be able to think a couple of moves ahead.

How does marketing want the customer to react.
In what ways "could" the customer react.

We always want feedback and take it seriously. However, that doesn't necessarily mean an immediate about-face on things. It definitely means that your voice will be a factor as we make future decisions.

Festool A Friend isn't going to be for everyone, but we're getting rebate submissions already. We're planning some fun things for 2016. If Festool A Friend isn't for you, hopefully the next thing will be.

Being a Kubrik fan may I suggest a reach-RO-round on sanders perhaps?

It's really common for Quebec to be excluded from promotions, sweepstakes, etc, because they have really strict restrictions on them. Why? No idea. I did some research out of curiosity and didn't find much.

Thanks Tyler for sharing with us Festool's stance for this promotion and that is not going to be changed, altered, or rereleased. I appreciate the definitive answer. We all know where we stand now.

Thanks for the input Tyler, I decided to Google the situation and found this document.

http://www.mcmillan.ca/Files/FortuitousEvents_0610.pdf

It points out all of the conditions and shackles that "The Régie" has the authority to impose. But I find the final sentence in the article to pretty much sum up the overall sweepstakes situation.

"Quebec residents were the only people in the world excluded from eligibility for participation in the Cisco contest, aside from residents of politically sensitive countries such as Cuba, Iran, Syria, North Korea, Myanmar, and Sudan."

The question about contests and promotions in Quebec has been mentioned here tons of times.  A search will confirm that.  The laws there regarding putting up bonds and reporting and record keeping basically take all the fun out of doing this kind of stuff there.

Hey Guys, I have obviously been following this thread.  I can read that the majority of posters here don't like the promotion.  The FOG is important to Festool and this thread is a perfect example of why.  Real input in real time.  However, whereas I got a couple of postcards in the mail yesterday with this information, my guess is that they can't just change course in the blink of an eye in the middle of things.  As Tyler wrote, they do listen, just like they listened during the most recent reconditioned tool sale.  What they do with what they heard is not up to us, and when they come out with something else I am sure that all of us will be here to hopefully read first about new promotions.  I strongly suspect that the comments made shall not be forgotten.

Please cut them some slack and understand that Festool throughout the world reads this stuff.  What is written here is knowledge to be used by many.  Unfortunately there are very few people behinds the scenes who can respond.  I am not an employee but I have spent enough time with so many that I can assure you that your words have resonated.

[member=1674]Peter Halle[/member]  I think we need a like button on FOG as this post, and others, have a reasoned, cogent and often sage insight.

Hi,
I just joined a few weeks ago, because I decided to take the plunge and this forum has a wealth of information.  My first purchase was a Domino 500 that I paid a little more than I should have, but was caught up in the Festool frenzy of the bid.  My wife and best friend, was going to get me a CT 26 and TS 55 REQ package for Xmas, but I found an unused RO 150/3 package for >20% off retail and couldn't resist.  I happened to see this "Festool a Friend" rebate at festoolusa and was a bit bewildered as to the logic behind it. 10% is better than nothing, except for having to talk a friend into taking the plunge to save me 10%.  I could easily give a friend $$$ to purchase a RAS 115.4 for me, it's the cheapest tool on my list, and then buy the rest and save 10%.  The illogical thing is that my list grew from about $2000 to $4000 when I saw that 10% rebate gimmick that had me finagling in order to save 10% at Xmas.  The more I think about it the more irritated I become.  I even asked my wife if it would be OK to get it after Xmas, but she's to traditional.  So, I'll just look for gently used festools, instead of buying new.

I really don't like to jump through hoops!

Try turning the calendar back to Summer 2004 to see the best way to get users hooked on your product - that promo was 20% off for a first time Festool purchase.  That was enough to push me over the edge for a first time Festool purchase.

Dang! I missed that one. For 20% off, I would purchase a 1400 router, 125 rotex, CT26, plus accessories for each, today.

On the other hand, becoming a part-time Festool salesman to earn 10% off the same items . . . not for me. Not today. Not ever.

My wife is my best friend.

She doesn't own any Festool tools.

Problem solved!

Feb 2016 Update...just received my Festool rebate cheque. Unfortunately, it was only for one tool purchase and did not include my friend's purchase. I defined "your purchase" as plural and Festool defined it as singular. Nice tools with a small discount before the price increase took place in Canada.
