I have recently purchased the Domino Festool.  I haved used it on three different projects with great success.  But yesterday I wanted to glue-up some panels.  When I went to lock the Domino fence at 90 degrees, I discoved that the locking level  would not lock.  I found the problem was that the piece the screw went into was broken in half.  Has anyone else had this problem?  My second question is who should I contact to get the Domino repaired?  Is there a repair center?  Should I contact Festool directly, or perhaps the placed I purchased the Domino?  Thanks in advance for your help.  pkennedy

Contact the ISA you bought the tool from about sending it back.
They'll probably replace it rather than repair, and maybe even cross-ship.

If you're going to own tools that can conceivably break, it's best to own Festools.
No other company will treat you better when their product breaks.

I'm glad you like your Domino, and am sorry you've had a problem.

I think that fault has been reported here before. Have a look at the thread called How 'bout this-Mine BROKE which includes a parts diagram for interest, and see how it compares to your problem.

I see that you're from Crossville, Tennessee, and I am sure that you will have no problem getting it repaired or replaced. Please tell us when you bought it (eg was it within the last 30 days?), and where you got it from (eg a bricks and mortar store, or an on-line dealer).

I bought my Domino in October of 2007. The table height lock broke about a month ago. It broke in the systainer. It was fine the last time I used it & when I got it out for the next job, parts fell out on the bench.  The part that broke on mine was number 21 on the parts layout. The part looks to be cast & not very thick in the area that broke.
Festool sent me the part & I installed it myself.  It was easy to install.

Chris, that sounds like what happened to me.  I had used the domino on thursday with no problems.  But when I tried to use it on Saturday it was broken.  I had never dropped it or misused/mistreated it in any way.  I hope I can get mine fixed as easily as you.  I bought the domino on-line and will contact them tomorrow.  Thanks everyone.  pkenendy

Got mine in a day and 1/2.
they say they recast the new ones with a stronger material. They also told me not to push too hard when locking the fence. Just needs be lightly tightend and it will hold in place.

I spoke with the Festool rep this morning.  He is mailing me the replacement part.  Thanks for your help.  pkennedy

Just shows you - the brand isn't faultless as some people on here seem to think.....!!

Fester, I think statements like this are unfair, no one here believes Festool is perfect. In fact, it is those that you accuse that are the first to offer help to others having problems with their Festool products. We acknowledge problems do exist, some happen often enough that you'll see standard responses to them when they are brought up. Festool and their dealers handle the issues that arise well, so I applaud them for their efforts.

I've never implied that the brand was faultless. Just that it was better than the competition. :D

At ?512.30 Inc VAT for a biscuit jointer......... the customer service is going to be good - I think they may want you to keep coming back!!

There must be some cocks on here!

Festering, the fact that you would call the domino a biscuit joiner just shows your ignorance of the Festool product line. Like many befoe have said the tools are not perfect nor is the service or anything else. However, the tools, the service and everything else about Festool is head and shoulders above any other company I have ever dealt with. Before you speak so disparagingly maybe you should try and see what we rave and about and why. Fred

From the look of you pair - this woodworking lark is taking it's toll on you!

Festering,

This forum is for Festool Owners and people who might remotely consider becoming a Festool Owner.  Do you fall in either category?

Dan.

it is a tool that will change how you work on projects but it's o.k. to have a sense of humor and call it a biscuit jointer even if it is more of a sausage stuffer.
