Festool DSC-AG 125 Grinder 767 996

Does anybody have any experience with this grinder?

I cut LOTS of sheetrock, plaster, stucco and concrete, and it looks like I might be doing a little bit of tile here and there. To date, I've been using a 12 amp Makita angle grinder with a dustless cutting shroud from Dustless Technologies. The assembly captures 99% of the dust, but it's a bit cumbersome. I'll probably end up getting the Hilti DCG 500-S grinder and tuck pointing shroud, but I wanted to look into this Festool grinder before I drop $400 on the Hilti.

My primary questions:
1. Is this tool 120v or 240v? I can't figure it out based on the Festool International page.
2. It looks like I can order JUST the shroud assembly, separate from the grinder. Does anybody know what the collar diameter is on the shroud so I could match it to a grinder available in North America?

Tom, I have the Protool version of the shroud, or I did.  I ordered one a couple of years ago but didn't have the time to fabricate a bushing to make it fit one of my grinders.  A few months later when I had time to work on this project I couldn't find the shroud anywhere. [mad]  If I have some time I'll try to find the shroud again, although I don't when to even look that I haven't already tried.

BTW, I'm pretty sure the Festool/Protool grinders are all 240V.

These are awesome little angle grinders ... I've got three of them (two as Protools). One setup with the diamond cutter and guide rail shroud (the Festool one), one with the concrete grinding dust collector shroud and one for freehand.

My Protools are the DE versions (variable speed). They switched the housing on the Festool so the switch is on the other side to better work in the track shroud configuration.

I also have the 150 and 230, the 230 also has the diamond cutting rail/track setup. Sad they discontinued the 150 ...

Exactly what measurement(s) do you need? The collar is ~53mm for the various clamp on attachments ...

You know this as well as I do, but generally if an item is not available in the UK it isn't available in a 110/120 volt version. I checked - as I'm sure you did - and it's not available in the UK.

Also, there is no E-kat info on a 120 volt version.

It's more a fact that these were old protool tools that were brought into the festool range and protool made nothing in 110v

Perfect, thank you Kev!! That's the info I needed. My Makita SJS grinder has a ~42.2 mm collar so that likely won't work, but knowing the Protool/Festool grinders have a 53mm collar helps me to select an appropriate grinder to pair with it, likely another German brand like Metabo, Bosch or possibly Hilti (yes I know they're not German).

Many angle grinders allow the user to rotate the tool body relative to the gear housing, just a matter of disassembly and reassembly, good to know though for correct orientation relative to the Festool shroud.

Swung by my local contractor supply house yesterday with a pair of calipers and walked up and down the aisles measuring the angle grinders. Not surprisingly, they all (Makita, Milwaukee, Bosch, Dewalt) all had collars in the 42mm (+/- 1mm) ballpark, nothing close to the 53mm though  [unsure]

The service department had a Metabo in for service, it looks like it MIGHT be closer to the 53mm target but I wasn't able to get the guard off to know for sure. Does anybody own a Metabo grinder that they can check? I'm looking at the WE 14-125 series, but info on any Metabo 4.5"-6" grinder would be much appreciated!!

Tomorrow I plan on swinging by my Hilti center to check out their grinders.

On the bright side, it appears that the shroud assembly can be ordered separately, part #769075, now it's just a matter of tracking down a way to get it to North America, and find a matching grinder!  [big grin]

Tom, it's not just the diameter you need to worry about, there are tabs on the shroud that index the grinder correctly.  I don't have a pic of the tabs on the shroud but I do have a pic of the corresponding detents on the Protool/Festool grinder.  You'll also need to contend with getting the blade orientated correctly to line up with the guide rail.

After racking my brain for a couple of days I have an idea where my Protool should might be, I'll be happy to take some pics if I do find it.

BTW, I remember it wasn't cheap to get the shroud.  It came in cardboard box about the size of a sys 4, so shipping was pretty steep.  That said the shroud would be a great accessory if you can get it up and running.

Hi Brice!! Heh-heh, I kinda accidentally ordered the Festool shroud today! LOL I was trying to ask the seller a question and got a little overzealous when clicking. So, looks like I have a shroud on it's way! Price was spendy but not outrageous.

I plan on devoting a specific track to this, so if the alignment isn't perfect I won't be too torn up. Yeah, it would too easy for the grinder manufacturers to make a universal collar, wouldn't it?!? I have a fair amount of experience adapting grinders to various dust shrouds, but I would very much appreciate any input you might have.  [smile] I'll post up pics and my experiences after the shroud arrives.

Shroud is shipped and on its way, hopefully have it in the next week or two. If the shroud turns out to be too difficult to fit to a North American grinder, I DID notice that Metabo also makes a grinder designed to ride on Festool-style guide tracks, though again I can't figure out if it's 120v or 240v. If it's 240v, the shroud can be ordered separately, and has a greater chance of fitting North American Metabo grinders.

Metabo is a good 5~6mm smaller in collar diameter. Certainly nothing standard going on between Festool and Metabo in the angle grinder department (both AG's are 125mm)

Apologies for the delay, I've been scrambling to complete a project downtown in time for the Super Bowl.

I did eventually receive the Festool grinding hood, but ultimately I was unable to find a 120v grinder that was compatible with it.

Instead, I opted to go with the Metabo grinder platform and their shrouds. If you want one-stop shopping, this is ultimately what I ended up with: https://www.metabo.com/us/enus/tool...d-set-ced-plus-600408680-5-angle-grinder.html

The grinding shroud is compact but effective, and the upper black section can disconnect from the lower rolling section for deeper cuts or free hand work. The rolling carriage works with the Festool tracks.

I bought the shroud separately, and bought a geared-down, variable speed 5" grinder (I forgot the model #, if you'd like I can dig to find out). Metabo is known for their grinders, and the reputation is deserved.

I regularly use this setup to demo drywall, plaster, concrete and stucco, with minimal airborne dust.

HILTI also has some great grinder/hood combos to consider as well.
