I'm looking for a 230mm angle grinder with good dust extraction and was wondering if anyone on the FOG has the DSC AGP 230?
There's almost nothing to be found on the internet or YouTube, except for this video:

Dust collection does look pretty bad on this video :s
Anyone who can comment?

I've barely used mine. I thought DC was "OK" .. I was cutting sandstone at the time.

(Mine is the Protool colour scheme)

Most annoying thing to me is the oversized case .. surely they could have got it into a maxi - the case it comes in is slightly larger and isn't compatible with the Tanos stuff.

That video would have put me off buying had I seen it!! [eek]

The 125 is much less of a handful.

A 230 mm grinder is just too big for a normal vac to keep up with.

Only remedy would be to move very slowly, but that would take ages.

I have a carat dustcatch on a bosch angle grinder for about 10 years now; it isn't compatible with the festool rails, and it doesn't have wheels, but the blade is more enclosed en dust collection is pretty good, as long as you use it the right way (rest the part of the hood where the hose is attached to the wall/material and then plunge). (I use it with a spit vacuum and a 35 mm hose, but your protool with AC is also suitable)
I have this version: link
But now there's an updated version: link

I'm considering getting a waterkit to cut outside with better visibility

I have the 125 and can tell you that the dust collection on that is excellent. I can chase into concrete walls inside a house and no mess. I don't have the 230 so can't comment if that is normal or not but seems unusual for a Festool product given their focus on dust collection.

I can also  [thumbs up] the 125, i have used it in clients apartments with little dust.
I also made a video showing the qualities of the grinder on youtube, the only problem is that my tool is in the protool colors. Otherwise i believe there are no other changes.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I have every confidence in the dust extraction of the smaller diameter grinders, unfortunately I'm looking specifically for the larger cutting depth of a 230mm grinder.

I'm still undecided between the Festool or the Hitachi CM9UBY which looks pretty good on this YouTube video:

I think what is most important in this case for dust free working, are the hood and the vac you use, not the grinder itself.

Grinders are pretty simple machines and many brands make good ones. I don't think Festool will make a difference here.

But how well the hood catches the dust and how strong the vac is are deciding factors here. I think they use a stronger vac in the video with the Hitachi, while in the first video they use a Festool.  The more I use Festool vacs, the more I find them underpowered compared to the competition. They do well with the smaller tools, but with the bigger ones there's a lot of room for improvement. So if you're going to do this work a lot, a stronger vac from another brand might be a wise choice.

As for the hood, those from Carat look very good. The more it encloses the better your collection will be. The Festool ones look very open compared to some of the other hoods you can get.

It is also not clear what the guy in the op video is using for a dust extractor. If he is using one with a small hose and bag he won't be getting the volume (thunk of the Kapex and the difference the 36mm hose makes) or the bag might be plugging with dust. Hard to say as you can't see anything in the video.

I use a CtM 36 heavy duty recommended for cement dust and use it with my Renofix as well and it does a great job. I was also planning to get a 230mm for deeper cutting, but have not done that yet
