Newbie here.  I tried to search this first.  Apologies if this is the 1000th time you're fielding this type of question.

I'm attracted to the TS 55REQ given my need to do woodworking in my home during the cold months.  It's not that FESTOOL doesn't make great products (that this Newbie couldn't possibly begin to truly appreciate on day 1).  It's just that that I'm not loaded in cash to buy Festool tools only.  Although I will save for Festool tools if I think they're worth it.

Q1) If you had to pick which of the 2 Festool product lines was the "workhorse" in dust collection, would you pick the Festool line of dust collectors or the Festool plunge track saws and tracks as the major reason the dust collection is so relatively good in Festool products?

Yes--clearly both products contribute and integrate so well in the overall dust collection results.

But, to rephrase, would substituting another strong dust collector with a Festool line of track saw likely result in better dust collection than substituting another brand of plunge saw and track with a Festool dust collector?

Q2) I have no issue with the quality of products like Festool's MFT/3--only my understanding (perhaps incorrect) that expansion of my toolset to work with the MFT/3 and track, say with a router, involves my committing to a Festool router--which of course would be no sacrifice (again--that Festool makes great stuff--no argument) except in my bank account, especially since I already own a non-Festool router that does most of what I need.

Yes--you get what you pay for--a fair plug for Festool.  But this is just a hobby.

But have people devised relatively easy ways to get their non-Festool routers to work on the MFT/3 and track...say, for example, by using products (gasp--four letter work coming) from.................

I can't say it...........

Eurekazone?  : - )

or even other vendors?

Thanks

I tried Eurekazone before I bought my ts75 and was not satisfied with the product.  That being said I know there are a couple people on FOG that use the Eurekazone and are happy.

Q1)  My 2 cents worth - I am just a hobbiest as well with alot of remodel and home projects. The other issue that affects my experience is the size of my work space which is approx 170 sq.  It is perfect for breaking down sheet goods and making one cabinet at a time.  That said, i find the work horse to be the TS55 track saw and tracks, as you can use any vacuum to hook up to the saw and keep the mess down.  I would suggest a vacuum trigger with it though as I have forgotten to turn on the vacuum 1st and you really know when the dust extraction isn't working.  I did pick up a Festool CT22 eventually, and the quietness of that compared  to my Rigid is amazing.

Q2)  The other 1st purchase I made was the MFT/3.  I needed something portable and I made the choice to not to spend the time making a work bench and just having one to start using.  If you do go with a MFT/3, then you can mount a non-festool router under neath as seen in this video

about time stamp 2:45.  Others here have also modified their tables as well.

Welcome to the forum.  The green slope is slippery but fun.

Welcome to the FOG!

In a previous post:http://festoolownersgroup.com/festo...-a-festool-dust-extrator/msg435456/#msg435456

I mentioned that you can get excellent dust collection with either Festool track saw and ANY standard shop vac.  I used a Rigid shop vac with a HEPA filter with my TS 55 REQ for two years with excellent dust collection results (and I'm a fanatic when it comes to dust collection!).  If money is an issue, go for the track saw - I guarantee you'll love it!

I also made a router mount for my Dewalt router to work on the Festool guide rails (of which I have three).  It was very easy to simply cut a dado in a board to fit over the track.  Any slop can easily be shimmed out with electrical tape. Works like a charm.

Again, if money is an issue, I'd go with the track saw, a standard shop vac and your existing router and you can do everything you want to, without limitation.

Enjoy...

I like the idea of mounting underneath the mft. But your really limited to any bit under 20mm.

I rigged up a dewalt router guide to fit the makita/festool track for my dw621.
