Has anyone tried hooking up a Festool dust extractor to the Dewalt planer?

I'm guessing it doesn't have the CFM for a planer right?

I tried my CT22 with my Ridgid benchtop 13" planer. Even with a Rockler vortex in between it doesn't really work. With a regular shop vac it works very well and it's really easy to empty.

Christoper,

If you are talking about a thickness planer, which one are you thinking about?

Just the lunchbox type, buddy is thinking about getting one---think he was looking at 735 model.

Really...I find that surprising.  I find my Festool DE to be better in all regards to a typical shop vac; what size diameter hose were you usin' if you don't mind me askin?

If the Festool can do it with a larger hose, that would be fab.  Otherwise its a separate dust collector for my buddy (not a big deal, he will prob have to get one eventually for his bandsaw to be)

Just curious if anyone has found a way make the Festool work on a planer for light passes.

i think the 735 has a blower. you shouldnt need a vac. it wouldnt hurt. i would put a seperater in between

Thanks you are correct, the 735 has a blower; sounds like Festool DE should work fine w as you say a separator; will report back when I've tested.
That would be pretty cool, even though used DE's (non-portable type) on craigs with high CFM are running in the 100 dollar range so no big deal.
Next question is whether it would work with a bandsaw!?
I guess at some point you need a separate collector for bigger machines anyway...

Kind thoughts -
Christopher

I have the 735 and have tried it with ct22 and diust deputy deluxe.  Blows lid off dust deputy so you need to bar clamp lid down.  Then the blower and the vac ended up sucking too much into bag and filled up quickly.  I have rhought qbout disabling the blower but haven't yet.

That is my experience at least.

36mm hose. The CT vacs aren't really designed for the sort of volume that a planer throws out. I would save yourself a lot of trouble and expense and get the smallest possible shop vac and a rockler vortex. Quick to fill, easy to empty, nothing spent on bags. I plane quite aggressively as I want to get close to my final dimension as quickly as possible. I can fill a large garbage bag in 15 minutes- that's a lot of CT bags. I suppose if you were just taking 1/64" off at a time the CT could handle it, but I routinely hog off 1/16" per pass.  ;D

I have used a CT 22 with my DW735 quite successfully. I used a long-life bag and 50mm hose. The blower on that planer is pretty good so you can really just blow it into a trash can but I wanted to minimize dust as much as possible.

It works well but fills the bag fast so you have to think about it and change it often. If you start seeing shavings around the planer, the bag is probably full.

I have a DW735 and purchased the DW Hose that goes right into a garbage can. The can is sealed at the top with a cloth shroud that has a drawstring in it. Dewalt makes it for around $50.00 or so I think it was. I can fill up a large trash can pretty fast let alone a small separator.
