The festool sander ets 150/5 with the dust bag. Is the extraction on this sander any good, I am considering this sander mainly as the dust collector is expensive,

The dust extraction/collection with just the container is "acceptable" and probably better than some sanders, but it will never, ever compare to extraction via a hose and separate extractor. You can always use an inexpensive shop vac with an appropriate hose if necessary (and wear hearing protection) if necessary to make it affordable.

As Jim said with the bag it is OK. But the vac is the way to go.

Not only is the DC really good with a vac but the abrasive stays cleaner and the sanding job is better since there is less dust / particles swirling around between the abrasive and surface.

If you use a less expensive shop vac, you will need to devise some type of suction reducer if the vac doesn't have one. Generally with vacs at full power the sander gets sucked down to the surface too much.

There are plenty of sanders that allow vacuum attachment.  My $45.00 Ridgid sander from Home Depot can be hooked up to a vacuum.  It has been replaced by a $70.00 sander and I don't know if that one can be hooked up.

But there are certainly other options.

The Ridgid collects reasonably well with the attached bag; better with the vacuum.  I don't know how well it compares with the Festool option.

Dewalt sells an adapter to allow it to connect with dust collection systems.
