I've been looking to get the OF1400 Router and had been hoping to get a used one on craigslist or ebay or even here.  I have determined that its just as well to just buy new.  I have now bid on three 1400's only to see them end up going (with shipping) for not much less than retail.  The last one was 3 years old did have the strait edge but went for 405 + shipping.  Makes me feel pretty good if I ever get in a real tight spot and need cash, I can get most if it back on my festool stuff.  Doesn't help on the buying end if you are looking for a great deal.

Yep, they definitely hold their value. Even the things that have been discontinued still fetch pretty good resale prices...like the ATF65.

So that is the case in the US too. In Sweden, the prices people pay for used (and abused) Festool tools is insane. Pretty often you see online auctions ending near the retail price for tools being very scratchy and with missing accessories.

i am amazed what people will pay on ebay for used festools.
i recently sold ATF 55 in systainer with 2 x 1400 guide rails for AU$810.

i bought these items for AU$840 and had it for a few years, not much use, in very good condition.
i expected to get AU$600 - AU$650.

after receiving the money from this sale i rushed out and bought the all new TS 55 with 2 x 1400 rails. cost AU$1100.
total cost to me..AU$290 for a brand new set up.

very happy camper!

I'm usually the purchaser. I own three Festools, and I bought two of them used.

I have bid on several routers and sanders on ebay.  Usually they sell within $40 -$60 less than buying new! To me I would rather buy new, but it is good to know that you can get close to what you paid.

I figure if I can get 20% off retail and taxes on ebay with shipping I have done pretty well in buying Festools used.  Most of mine I have just ended up buying new though...

Best,
Todd

The only deal I ever got on Ebay for a Festool was;  DX93 with 6 full boxes of sand paper for about 250.00!!

Got a deal on a DX93 152.00 used, but like new to me. Every other Festool used is a joke, people that pay that much are not thinking. Even for 100.00, on a 700.00 tool is it worth the savings over new? I do not think  so.  I pay 60% of the tool new at most, maybe 70% for a Festool if it is pristine. I have seen some stuff on eBay actually cost more than new when the shipping was added!

Nick, I was just thinking along those same lines yesterday.

But, if I ever did have to sell, it's good to know there's differences of opinion.

I think some guys get that DX93 thinking it is a replacement for a Fein multitool, but they are really different animals.

The DX 93 is for sanding, my Fein I never sand with. The Fein is good at really strange cuts. If I could only have one it would be the Fein because you can get away with sanding using it, but the Festool DX 93 does sand much better.

I think many purchase that DX and then may miss the neat cutting of the Fein, if they only new that the Fein does not sand that well they would probably keep both. Plus, I think if I needed quick money the first sander to go for a lot of people would be their DX93, it really is for minimal sanding jobs albeit sometimes tricky jobs,  but can be accomplished hand sanding. Just guessing of course.

I use the DX a lot.  It is very handy sanding a house.  Cleaning up old window sashes, doors, and helping eliminate hand sanding.

i agree with nickao, 60% of the original price is as much as i am willing to pay, any more and i prefer buying new.

Seems that the DX93 is an orphan or sorts.  I have seen good deals on the RAS as well.

I have been trying to find a good deal on these items used for a few months now, but haven't really found anything to get excited about.  For some reason, I have a hard time justifying the new price on these two particular items.

Almost all of my other Festool purchased have been new, or I just came across someone local who was going out of business.  Sight unseen, I agree with Nick and Justin, I won't pay more than 60% or so of new.

That is one reason I buy festool they hold there value.  If they didn't I would not pay as much as I do for some of there stuff, oh and yeat I get to use the best ;)

I think the reason why they hold there value is because people can not get the tool in their country so they go on ebay to get hold of it.

I agree and disagree. If you only gotta have one have the fein.

I think the fein does sand well it takes of alot of wood if needed even on hard wood and I find that has been very helpfull.

I have found out you can not use any other sanding pads put feins own sanding pads I have used festool sanding pads and after market sanding pads and they all just fall off, the velcro can not handle the oscillation of the fein.

The cost of the Fein multi master is ?175 inc vat pounds and thats the complete kit you get everything. It cuts wood, brilliant for cutting platerboards even if you have not got any teeth left on the blade, Handy for cutting nails when you gotta remove something and it can do loads more!

Now the Festool DX 93  costs ?201 inc vat  so its ?26 pounds more and all it can do is sand.

When I used the festool sanding pads on the fein it was the worst one out of all the sanding pads I tryed out the velcro bit and the sand paper seperated after  1 minute of use so when you just carry on using it you mite as well use your hand because the fein mite be oscillating but the actually sand paper just stays still because it had detached it self from its self. So I would be left with the velcro bit stuck to my fein which I would have to pick off.
