Festool hose with a Bosch planer?

I'm planning to get a TS 55 very soon. But I can't swing the cost of a dust extractor at the same time, not even as a package. So this has me looking at Festool hoses to work with my existing shop vac. So far, I've found that I can use any Festool hose with my shop vac. (Along with the limitations of doing so.) But it got me wondering about using those hoses with other German made tools.

For example, I have a Bosch planer that has a metric dust port which doesn't really fit any of my existing hoses. The port is about 36mm I.D. and 38mm O.D. Can I use the 36mm hose with this? (As in, is 36mm the O.D. of that hose?)

Or more generally, are the tool connection diameters a metric standard?

Yes, the Festool D36 hose will fit over that Bosch planer port. Though the hose ID may be 36mm the tool end connector is 38 - 39mmm ID so it should fit perfectly onto the 38mm OD port.  A D36 hose would be a good one to buy , as it will do a better job on the planer than the D27 that comes standard with the CT vacs. So if  / when you get a Festool vac in the future you will not have a duplicate , but a complimentary hose to the system.  Also consider one the the cleaning sets that comes with a D36 hose, they work out to a better deal than seperates, and you will probably want cleaning tools that fit the Festool hoses later on too.

When you do start using a TS55 you will find the Festool 36mm hose a major benefit. As you say, Festool hoses work with nearly all shop vacs. This is because there is an international standard for the vac end, which Festool calls the 50mm fitting. The downsides to using most non-Festool vacs are that few retain anti-static properties of the hose and usually do not have variable suction. I find even with 36mm hose on my TS55 the anti-static feature is very important.

I own a lot of Festool 36mm hose, but I do not have any Bosch planers. Of course I use the 36mm AS hose on my Festool planers. Given that your shop vac has a standard vac fitting, if by some chance your Festool 36mm hose does not fit the Bosch planer, then you could use a Bosch 36mm hose. That will not be anti-static, but should work with Festool cleaning sets, which do not need AS hose.

I found Bosch hose Bosch VAC005 actually fits Festool.  Has the equivalent hose connection on both side to Festool D27 hose.  A good non-antistatic hose alternative.

According to the product spec on amazon link above, it should fit your bosch planer.

However, because of the huge chips produced by planers, those are tools really needing the 36mm hose.

I don't know about the 36mm hose, but the standard hose that comes with the 22 vac fits. As a bonus, the dust bag that comes with the Bosch planer fits the Festool saw and is great for those small jobs when you don't want to pull out the vac.

Ive got a Bosch gho 40-82C. I have tryed it with a 36 mm
hose, but it is to big, and to loose, so it falls off easily. The 27 mm
hose fits inside de dust port, and fits snug. Stays put the hole time,
and provides good dust collection also!!
