Festool is an addiction...

For those of you in the USA, I live 1/2 a mile from the US authorized Festool dealer. It's not easy.

carpenter69: [welcome] to the FOG!

I see that you are gonna fit right in here. And I feel your pain...

Price is not an issue if the tool helps you make $$ (from a business side of things, not hobbiest).

I tend to agree.  Where the line becomes blurred is the hobbiest use-case.  In remodeling projects I do (almost) all of the work including building the cabinetry like vanities, built-ins, upper and lower boxes, etc.  the benefit for us has always been the ability to have higher quality custom products "for less money".

Side bar:  less money means we're comparing to like custom items built to the same measurements and design by someone/some company where time is an expense.  In my case, time is "free".

If we add up my Festools and materials we're still way ahead.  For a DIY/hobbiest that has a different model the ROI becomes nearly impossible to realize.

But I never got the "addiction" aspect to owning any brand of tool.

I don't think addiction is used in the true sense.  I use the phrase too but really mean "now that I've experienced using the system I'm curious and more compelled to buy other offerings of the same brand."

There's no doubt that festool are the best portable woodworking tools out there. The Germans have always had a knack for engineering. The jigsaw got me hooked.

Festool it's trully an addiction. I started in Nov with a sander, 150/3. Shortly after I got an extractor and TS55. Then, after a short break got the 1400 router and some bits.
More recently, I scored an ok deal on T18 and sold my bosch drill and driver.
I was hoping I'm done for a while but no, here comes a deal on xl700 with seneca plates and extra bits...of course I couldn't pass :(
Last week I ordered the mft3 to avoid the price increase. And the list goes on and on. Now if could only find a decent deal on a used HL850 and a carvex ... oh well.

In the mean time I had to sell more lenses from my previous hobby, photography. That one was even a more expensive one between Canon L lenses and prophoto lights.

My wife is now asking if there is a support group for wifes that have to put up with all the festool madness? Let me know where should I direct her to go :)

They aren't an addiction.  They are different and their system allows users to think differently in their goals to work better.  That process is liberating and addicting.

Spoken like a true junkie

They say the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem.....or just hurry up and buy two of everything and let us know if the shakes subside.

I've been working on it for 9 years.  I plan on working on it for another 25 to 30. [big grin]  If I kick the habit you'll know.  I will have gone silent.

My greatest fear is that if I die, my wife will sell my equipment for what I said I paid for it. [eek]

Ummmm.... Errrrr....ahhhh.... Oh never mind! [crying]

Cheers,

Frank

P.S.  Ten days left before finally returning to my precious green machines in Florida...and carrying my new 2015 Centrotec set in a suitcase, and will have made its maiden voyage from Germany (Festool) to England (Dealer) to Scotland (Hotel) to Amsterdam (overnight due weather) to Nigeria (Work), and finally home to Florida (Workshop)!  If that's not Festool addictive OCD, I don't know what is! [tongue]

Great comments guys!

Well...my new goodies showed up...but the MFT/3 box had a nice dent in the side and torn open...sure enough the front long rail of the table was dented!!!!!!! One of my employees signed for the box...it should not have been accepted.

Called my vendor up and sent them pics...and they are sending me a new rail...kinda a PITA if you ask me either way. Figured I might as well keep it as I'm not sure another one would arrive any better. I did ask for a goodwill gesture and called me back to offer me a free shirt (ok).

Festool should do a better job on the packaging, FedEx should be a bit more careful with the 70lbs/oversized boxes.

I ordered from a great supplier that is closer to me (in the midwest) and gives you free festool gear (shirt/hat) vs. one of my other normal vendors that is on the east coast that packs things better...though they once showed on my pack slip that they included my TS55 in my shipment...when they didn't...they corrected that though :). YMMV. :)

Perhaps we should bequest our Festoons to fellow FOG members...haha

I started my addiction a little over two months ago. It started with the Domino 500 And the tenon systainer. Since then I've added the TS75 with 75in track and a 118" makita track plus 3 blades, a Kapex, Carvex 420 with the accessory kit , CT26, installers cleanup kit with stainless tubes, MFK 700, RO 125, 2 Ratchet clamps and I've done the Paulk workbench and mitre saw stand, both CNC machined. I believe I have a problem! I do use these for work, so I guess I can justify it!!!!!

When you build cabinets for your shop, and it takes a couple of years to complete them, and you find yourself considering ripping half of them out so you can replace them with Sys-friendly ones...

You have a problem.

Hi Shaun.mcc I would have to say it's a toss up between the ts55 and guide rails and the domino. Those are the two I have used the most.  But my most recent are the of2200, of 1400 , and LR 32 system which I know are going to get a lot of use very soon so I will let you know if anyone else jumps into the lead but seriously it's like asking a father to pick his favorite child I love ALL my festool I love them all

I think it is an addiction, but you gotta love the quality of them. It is a joy to use them. Back when Axminster Tools, Nuneaton had an amazing display of Festool products, I'd taken the wife in to see it all one time and when we left even she was converted and could see that the quality of the Festool products was far above the others in store  [thumbs up]

Now if I could just get my DIY skills up to the level to make good use of such products we'll be laughing  [big grin]

I bought than an MFT earlier in the week and I have the CT-26 vacuum>
Leaning towards a Domino.

My current addiction is with Mafell. The Mt55 onto the MFT is coming up and then the P1CC.
