Festool Of 2000 is it the end?

My OF2000 stopped working today, it just blew out the fuse in the consumer unit?

When I reset the fuse, and start the Router it just goes again.

Not sure what festool charge to repair per hour etc. It is worth getting a new one?

I only every use it for kitchen work surfaces.

Is the OF 1400 any good for work surfaces?

Or should I be looking at the OF 2200 for a replacement?

Can Festool UK give me an idea of repair costs?

If you send it to Festool UK, they will strip it & give you an estimate of cost to repair. I don't think they charge for the diagnosis (though I'm not 100% on that) so if not all you'll be out is the cost to send it to them.

This info used to be on the website, but it doesn't seem to be there anymore.

If you've been using the OF2000 for worktops you'll probably be disappointed by the OF1400, so I'd say either go for the OF2200, or buy another OF2000 off ebay - there still seem to be a few around.

It could be something simple. Is it sparking ? Could be brushes, but doubt that would trip the mcb. Is the cable ok? Even if it looks ok there could be an internal break in the cable somewhere.

Pretty sure festool will quote for repairs before doing any work.

It doesn't get chance to spark, it trips the MCB as soon as I switch it on.

It is possibly over 10 years old, so not sure what to do with it?

Woodchippie, I'd recommend getting an estimate.  It likely will be an inexpensive repair.  The new OF2200 lifespan is outrageously long, I'd suspect the 2000 is up there as well.  These tools should be getting passed to your kid's kids.

As for the OF 1400's chops, it'll run circles around a Porter Cable 7518, the used to be go to standard here in the states for large 3-1/4 HP routers.  It'll be up to the task.  Though a 2200 is more feature rich, lil more ergo in my opinion too.

Please let us know how this turns out. I have an OF2000 that has lived a pretty tame life so I don't expect any problems but it is nice to know how these older tools are handled by service.

I have other stuff plugged in to this ring main, with no problem, it only trips off when I turn the router on.
Although strange it didn't blow the fuse in the plug first.

If I understood what you wrote, your problem is with the main breaker and not with the final breaker? That would likely mean it has nothing to do with the tool.

I put in a request by email yesterday for the tool to be returned, waiting for reply.
Not sure how long this takes, will phone tomorrow if I don't hear back.

The mcb's are a lot more sensitive than normal plug fuses, so they will always trip before a fuse blows. Fuses normally blow when the motor etc is overloaded, so i'm guessing the mcb has detected something when switching on the router that wasn't enough to blow the fuse.

Not sure about the UK but in Ireland if you send a tool for repair and chose not to go for the repair if to costly you can get the cost of giving you the estimate off the price of a new tool.

Got email from Festool today for cost of repair if required £54.00 includes postage and VAT. So,not too bad to get it repaired.

They have to wait for parts, burnt out electronics apparently. Cheaper than a new one.

Sound quite reasonable to me. The way I'd look at it is "would I buy a refurbished OF2000 for £54?".
