Hi guys, currently have an OF2200 and it's a great piece of kit, I am just wondering how well will the 1400 fair up against worktops?

Not used a 2200 so no comparison from me, but, I've used the 1400 on countless solid wood worktops in the past and it's always been great. Perhaps I'm a little slower at doing them as I tend not to go to deep on each pass, but that's just habit.

Yeah, I only due 3-4mm per pass. The 2200 is very good but I wouldn't mind something a bit smaller as I do a lot of site work I rarely do solid wood, it would be laminate durapal worktops. Just wanted to know if the 1400 would be happy doing worktops every other day :)

Yes 3-4mm no worries, but of course your mileage may vary. Imagine laminate would be even easier though with a nice sharp bit. Certainly very capable.

Have done 45mm tops with mine no problem, funnily enough I'm thinking of going the other way and getting an of2200 as we are hoping to specialise in more profitable markets

I totally agree that the OF2200 is a marvelous and productive powerful router. I also have always found the OF1010 is a marvelous router when I am using 1/4" or 8mm shank bits. Long before Festool introduced the OF1400 I owned an OF2200 and 4 OF1010. I pre-ordered an OF1400.

I still own it, but frankly in End User classes I have probably used OF1400 more than the one I own. With me when a task requires a bit with a 1/2" shank, I out of habit use an OF2200. Except for lifting it, in use I find the OF2200 handles better than the OF1400 and with superior dust collection.

Of course your experience could be different.

Surely, that should be the other way round?

Indeed not!

Festool introduced the OF2200 as an upgraded replacement for the OF2000 several years before the OF1400 reached the market.

The OF1400 is in the 2005 Festool catalog. That is the oldest catalog I have. The OF2200 is not in a Festool catalog until 2008.

I bought my OF1400 in September 2007 - at the time, the OF2200 did not exist. The OF1400 was available for several years before the OF2200...

So getting back on topic  ::) is the general consensus that the of1400 will handle chipboard worktops without trouble?
I also only take small passes on the join itself but when it comes to the connection bolts I tend to hog out a little more in one go! I'm sure I could make 4 small passes but my current router does it in two without any problems other than ridiculous amounts of dust which is the reason I'm thinking out going down the festool route.
I cut one join today and I think my pockets collected more dust than the ct, even with all the plastic dust shrouds in place!
How good will the of 1400's extraction fair against worktops, given that my jig requires a 30mm bush and 12mm cutter?
Thanks in advance
Jamie

I still find the 1400 a bit strange to handle but it cuts tops okay.
But bought 2200 last week and I love it.
Its big it's heavy but is solid, hardly any vibration and with the 36mm hose extraction is really good.
If I had to trade1 and was using it for worktops I'd keep the 2200 without a doubt

I've used the 1400 for laminate worktops for years and I've always thought it was running at its max. I've just changed to the 2200 and I'm more than happy with the swap.

I would go 2200 and they just dropped the price if it so hurry.  ;)

Just bumping this to ask how many collets does the of1400 come with? Is it just two now, 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch. In a peter parfitt video it was mentioned it comes with an 8mm collet too.

Can anyone please clarify?

That probably depends on where you live.
In Sweden it comes with a 8mm and 12mm collet.
In 'imperial' countries it might come with 1/4 and 1/2' collets.

I'm not sure what it comes with now. When I bought mine, it came with 8mm, 12mm, and 1/2". I had to pay extra for the 1/4".  [mad]

They've definitely changed it, but not sure what to.

Edit: just had a look on Festool UK site, and it shows scope of delivery as being 1/4" and 1/2" collets.
