Festool OF1400 - Video Review and Demonstration

Hi Peter

I think Richard forgot to put in the link to the thread about his diy table but I have found it:

http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-tools-accessories/cms-modules/

The sliding table I think can't be used and maybe other parts of the system as well. I would only want to use bits that come with the OF module and I think these all can be used. It would be good if someone came up with an aluminium insert that mimics the cms base unit in terms of its interface to the OF module, but that can be easily and solidly fitted to a piece of wood.

Hi Peter,

When I bought my router module the CMS unit was unavailable in North America. The module was all I could logistically manage to bring to Canada, although I would do the same again even though you can now buy the full CMS version.

On my adapted table, you can't use the sliding table, table extension or any other part that uses the side profiles on the CMS basis unit.

But nothing is redundant. With the router module you get two types of fence and both attach to the main plate so can be used with no problems. In fact, one of the reasons that I purchased the module was to render redundant my PC router that sat idly in an old router table, now that I can use just my OF1400 for everything. I was able to sell the old router and table for almost as much as the router module, and clear space in the workshop.

Richard.

Nice review Peter.

The OF-1400 was the first Festool router I bought.  I have one of each of all 4 Festool routers and I would say the 1400 is probably the #1 choice with the MFK-700 right after.

When I first got it, I was annoyed with its limitation in bit diameter. The dust collection is clever but the base limits the bit sizes.  The solution is to also buy an OF-2200 ..

I used my OF-1400 to mortise a library ladder ( about 30 mortises ) with a 1/2" plunge bit.  Loads of power, easy to control.  A very fine tool ..

I have the attachment to run the 1400 on a guide rail.  That is a really disappointing accessory .. I ended up giving up on that..

The Festool routers IMO are the creme of the crop of the Festool line up ..  None are perfect but they are certainly as close as your gonna get to perfect.
