I saw Tom Silva this morning on TOH using the 1010 to make a patch in a wood floor that he was installing.  It looked like he had aluminum foil on the base of the router.  Did anyone else see this or know why you would do something like that?

I didn't see the show but what you describe is probably Slicksaw protective overlays.  He must have used the bulk sheet and made a custom overlay for Festool.  I use this on my DW621 and it works well at reducing friction and prevents scratches on prefinished stock.

I'm watching a episode now.  Tom and Norm installed some columns on the front porch of the house.

The columns needed to be cut, and Tom used a DeWalt angle grinder while Norm held the hose from a CT Midi.

Looks like Festool needs to introduce a angle grinder.

The last episode Tom installed  railing for a deck using the Kapex, CT midi, TS 55, Domino and Ti15 drill.

So I'm sure if Festool had a angle grinder, with dust collection of coarse,  Tom would have one.  And so would I !    [wink]

It's called a RAS 115, Eric...

Tom

You can cut with the RAS 115 like a angle grinder ?    Tom was cutting fiberglass structural columns.

Eric

I'm not sure how deep a cut you could make but the RAS has a pad for holding grinding disks, 485298. It might work for that application?

I haven't actually tried it so please consider this pure conjecture. Perhaps someone else will have actual experience?

I'm not sure how deep the cut was on the fiberglass columns Tom and Norm performed.

But Thank you Tom Bellemare for learning me something about the RAS.  I had no idea it had a pad for holding a grinding disk.

And to think on Valentines day, Mr. Bellemare is spreading wisdom with us !    Mrs. Bellemare  must be in for a nice treat later tonight !

LOL !

Don't forget the ETS 125 (if I'm not mistaken).

[smile]

DUDE !  I think it was a RO sander for sanding the plugs he used.    [tongue]

But, at lease you noticed he used a sander.  Or was it that little red headed guy that used the sander?    [wink]

I'm sticking with the ETS, Eric.  Whoever was using it, and the shot showed only the hand on top of the sander (as I recall), was taking it pretty easy, like a finish sander.
