I received a tracking number 15 minutes ago from Bob for my Pro 5. So, I can confirm that there will be at least some people receiving their sanders on time. Good luck.

[member=10890]Bhend18[/member] Would it be possible for you to post when you ordered the PRO5? This would help us get an idea of how the shipments are progressing.

  Guys,

We (and probably most other dealers) have only been given a small percentage of our sanders from Festool. We have not anywhere nearly shipped orders that were made of the first and second day of the sale - October 4th - 5th.
We will be getting more information later this week as Festool does their tallying up.

Poor you, Bob, I cannot imagine the trouble you are going through!

Thanks for the update.

Thanks again. This too shall pass. Once we get the word from Festool, we will have a much better idea of everyone's status and a timeline.

March? Good gravy.

Well now that makes sense...I visited 3 local Festool distributors this morning that I purchase from on a somewhat regular basis, trying to see if I could just by chance, snag a loose Pro 5. One vendor ordered over 100 sanders the other 2 ordered over 150 each. So between them over 400 Pro 5's were ordered. Festool delivered only 10 sanders to each vendor.  [eek]  To say that each vendor was miffed, angry, confounded, shocked...just fill in the rest, was a huge understatement. Maybe stunned would be a good word.

I asked them what the current Pro 5 ETA is and they said they had no idea, however, I could put my name on a non-binding wait-list that Festool asked them to assemble.  So 3 vendors later, my name is now on 2 different wait-lists (I didn't think I really needed to add it to 3 lists).

So between the names on the original pre-order list added to possible duplicate names on the multiple Festool/vendor wait-lists this promotion will not be wrapped up anytime soon. At this rate, the March time frame is probably the most realistic going forward.

If this drags into April, the timing will be perfect to add the yearly 10% price increase.  [tongue]

Interesting...my local dealer only received 10, however, they ordered 100 as well.  Only a small portion of the 100 ordered were spoken for, but they just wanted to order extra stock to sell which has me thinking that once Festool gets the total of actual sanders people confirmed on a pre-order, it will probably be significantly less than the total number of sanders requested by dealers which were just extra stock/not pre-order.

Then maybe, Festool will at least meet demand for all pre-orders in a timely manner...lets hope [unsure]

My shipment for both the Pro-5 and 400 was confirmed by Tool-Nut this AM. They assured me, I was "extremely lucky". I did order the first day but I don't have a time. I was in a hurry to order and signed in a "guest." so I can't access my order details.

The 400 was a landmark birthday (75) present from "she who must be obeyed." The birthday is tomorrow (Day of the Dead). I bought the Pro-5 as a present to myself and now it is a real present.

Tool-Nut customer service line is open, answered promptly and is still cheerful to all. Must be that Valium bubble gum Shane hands out.

Received Woodworker's Journal yesterday. Yup. The Pro-5 ad was on the back cover.

This is turning out to be a perfect Harvard Business School Case Study with the ghost of Henry Ford in the background. Ford,  who is mentioned in Economics 101 understood the elasticity of demand. Upon reducing the price of cars, demand soared in a much larger percentage than the corresponding percentage drop in price. An item with an elastic demand curve responds with a much greater percentage in  demand in response to a drop in price.

It now turns out, the dealers figured this out and ordered hundreds in anticipation of heavy demand.  Students of our Pro-5 HBS Case Study would likely describe Festool as a top-down run company. If they had a working dealer panel, this whole debacle would have likely been mitigated. I am relatively new to this Festool world but it amazes me that huge decisions seem to be made without much prior input and dealers sit around waiting for information.

The  case study epilogue  I wrote early on is about rationing the orders is playing out.

I just received tracking info for my Pro 5 order from Bob.

As far as I know my order was placed within the first hour of Bob's announcement of the special offer which he made here in the FOG late in the day following Shane's morning announcement.

I was "on the list" at my local Woodcraft They received 10,they called today and I am the first one in Jacksonville to have one. Yeah! She's pretty too

OK, so riddle me this: why isn't release-day delivery an option? Doesn't that put the primarily online dealers at a disadvantage? If I wanted a RTS or DTS, I could pop over to the Woodcraft dealer or Highland and would have had it in my hands at 10am. But not allowing it to even ship until today means that it doesn't get picked up in a lot of cases until the end of the day.

This has little to do with my impatience, so don't take it that way. Thankfully I'm in a two-day window with all the dealers I have ordered from so far. If a release date is on a Tuesday, is it violating it to ship on Monday?

clark  - it shouldn't have taken a B-school student / grad to figure out the impending run on sanders created by a legitimate half price sale - even when coupled with a 5-10% off coupon and a special edition case.

That lesson should have been learned at the lemonade stand during one's youth.

I also find it interesting cheese says that his local dealers ordered 100's and Shane hinted they ordered a boatload too.  Wondering what Festool thought and did with all of that info which must have preceded actual public announcement of the "pre-sale" by dealers.  Surely Bob's and Shane's and Woodcraft's and Highland's order for a Semi truckload of sanders each caught someone's eye in Indiana ? [scratch chin]

Bob and Shane - did you guys only receive 10 units too ?  Understand if you don't want to comment on that.  ;) ;)

I hear you and I hae asked the same question  - but this opens up other cans of worms; you know there would be dealers shipping Friday - "hey, this will ship Friday, but my customer won't get it until Tuesday, Nov 1st, so all is good." And I do think it would put brick and mortars at a disadvantage. Besides, at this point it is a non-issue.

I won't speak for Shane, nor give out numbers of sanders on order, but yes, we only have received a small percentage on our PO.

I, too appear to be a lucky early bird, ordered early on the 4th from Tool Nut and have a UPS tracking number that it left today and it's on the way.  [thumbs up] [thumbs up] [thumbs up]
