I first saw this bit in the states and have been wanting to get one for a while. Its comes in 2 pieces the bit head and the spindle. The spindle is designed to screw into the the threaded shaft of the OF2200 after you remove the collet. The carbide tips are replaceable.

Im not 100% sure but I think they make a spindle for the 1400 to.

I bought this primarily to use the CMS for edge jointing. Before you ask, the spindle though sold separately is only used for this bit.

First photo is the bit in my OF 2200 with out the fence to show you what the bit looks like. The second photo shows the wood prior to jointing, the third photo is the jointed edge. The jointed edge was well awesome. So now if I can figure out a way to face joint boards using festools, Ill be a happy camper, So between the 850 with the bench stand, the CMS and the TS 55 I got all my edge jointing covered.

It is compatible.

The Rebating Head is 489284. The Cutter Spindle (for the OF 1400/2000/2200) is 490131.

Is this rebate bit and spindle NAINA?

I just checked festool USA it didnt show up. The only reason I could imagine that its not NAIA is much like festool router bits Festool quit selling them in the US. I dont see why you couldnt contact one of the Euro tool stores who frequent this site and get one.

That Rebate bit was one reason I'm interested in the CMS and the OF 2200 combo, there's a tutorial on Festool TV with it. I wasn't aware that you thread it onto the outside of the collet shaft, that must make it even stable...

I think the cutter spindle mentioned above must come included with the head, as my source doesn't mention anywhere that it is needed to make it work.. So the separate spindle part must be a spare part...

Here is the demo of the rebate bit    (in german..)

I wonder if they would offer other profile cutters for this?

I've thought about this item before. Unfortunately, there are no other cutters available - just the straight ones. You could (in theory) make other cutters for it, but on the block there is no provision for fitting chip limiters** so it would be a bit dodgy. Also, the block doesn't have scribing tips, so there's no real advantage to using this over a regular router bit, other than the large diameter.

I've looked to see if any other manufacturer does anything similar (i.e. a system of smaller-than-normal spindle moulder tooling that could be fitted to a large router in a table) but there doesn't seem to be any. There's probably a good reason why not!

**edit: looking at Ron's first picture, it seems that there are screw holes on the opposite side to the cutters, so it may be possible to fit chip limiters...

The spindle is sold separately. Im guessing because they have one spindle that fits the 2200 and another spindle that fits the 1400. It uses the same head. I wish they did offer different profile cutters. But the conversations I had with festol was that this is the only application for the spindle.

JRB, Though Im not positive I think the holes are to make removing the carbide cutters easier.

[doh] Of course. I didn't think you could fit limiters, then I saw the holes in your pic & didn't realise what they were for!  [doh] again.

It threw me because yours appears to be grey in colour, whereas the only other pics I've seen show it in black. You must be special, Ron! [big grin]

Hi
The one JRB is most likely referring to is 483249 which is the clearing cutter for the Putty Router
