I am surprised that the reconditioned sale is still active. Been a few months already. Do they usually last this long? Would they consider a larger discount to move the inventory?

First, [welcome] to the FOG.

Second, I am not sure but I suspect the fact that they now have to collect taxes in so many states has slowed things down a bit. If I can buy a new item from one of the many fine dealers here on the FOG and not pay taxes or shipping, there really isn't much of an incentive to buy a ReCon item at 10%?

Even at 20% it's not such a great deal (ends up being like 13% off for me) AND you lose the 3-year warranty.

Actually, for me there is more incentive to buy the new tool than a used one, especially at the 10% discount.  In states where taxes are charged on the reconditioned tool, for me it's break even (if buying from out of state, no taxes, free shipping) and I will always opt for the new tool with full warranty over the used tool of undetermined age and one year warranty. And I agree the 20% isn't enough of a discount either to swing the pendulum for me.

That's why I bought a new Ro 150 instead of a reconditioned one. For a few bucks more I got brand new with 3 years of warranty. I've looked at the reconditioned sale prices a few times and ended up with new each time, the savings were not enough to off set 2 years less warranty.

I purchased an older RO125 in a classic systainer, the difference in cost between it and a new RO125 was far more than the percentage they had listed (285 vs 465 or about 40% rather than the 20% indicated).  I am guessing that the % off is based on what the tool's original MSRP was so the older the tool the better the deal in comparison with purchasing new.  I am not sure if you could even find a used one at that price point and it came with a one year warranty.  I agree with the point on newer tools but this worked out well for me and I will always at least look at what is available during the recon sales.

20% or 30% off is worth considering. However, I bought a MFK700 trim router for a good price, but it came in a Classic Systainer. As long as I stack it on the bottom, the T-lok's will stack on top. So, for the one tool, I'm not really concerned, but I probably wouldn't do it again with a Classic. It's just inconvenient and the price of a new T-Lok and insert makes the discount not worth it. Plus, with only a 1-year warranty, I'd almost always choose the new tool over a reconditioned. The router was in great shape and a great price, so I don't regret it, just wouldn't do it regularly or maybe again.

I picked up a CT36 at 30% and it looked like it was never used. I would grab a CT Mini or Midi if they discounted the 10% units down to 30% hint hint Festool.

The TS55 REQ at 30% off was a great deal.  I ended buying it and selling my EQ model for about the same price.  I was on the look out for the Domino XL for a long time but never could find one. I think the list exemplifies which of festools products are most popular.  Items like the dominos are non existent, only a few CTs, but a boat load of drills.

Do you think this is a sign as to that their drills aren't as "wow"?  The domino is one of a kind, and they patented that design...not sure how anyone else is going to make something similar/better.

There are just a lot of drill models and variations (Systainer type, battery capacity, discount level, etc.). You're not seeing the quantities, only a listing of SKUs. There aren't a "boat load" of them available.  [wink]

You called?

[big grin]

Actually, I think your comment is truly apropos, based on how vocal I have been about the sparsity of the Festool Drill offerings compared to other countries and the questionable value compared to other brands. Even if there aren't a lot of them - per Shane - I think the fact that they are still available AT ALL says something their desirability vs other Festool products. At least at their current prices.

Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Festool drills suddenly look good when I need a right angle drill and to buy one would cost another $1-200. Between those times its hard to think about loosing that kind of money to them.

I had the same experience buying an OF2000. I got a nice Festool router for less than I would have paid for a similar-sized Porter Cable. That purchase was a no-brainer.
