Hi All,

I have one specific need for the RG130.  Once this job is done (grinding concrete down in front of garage doors to create slope), what else do you use the RG 130 for ?

Looking for some rationale so I can add to the “what Festool did you buy today” discussion.

Thank you.

Brian

Depending on your needs/ work:

You can use it to remove thick layers of paint from wood with the appropriate disc:https://www.festoolusa.com/accessor...iscs/204176---dia-paint-d130-premium#Overview

And you can use another specialized disc that will reduce heat build-up when removing materials/coatings that are heat sensitive and would clog regular discs.https://www.festoolusa.com/accessor...scs/768023---dia-thermo-d130-premium#Overview

It's a heavy duty grinder, not much else to do with it.

Kind regards,
Oliver

i'm literally looking at this as well

what's your rationale for the festool RG130? I didn't see anything competitive - 1600W - 2200 - 6500RPM - 3.9 kg

I looked at these, which all cost significantly less and some are lighter too.

makita PC5000C 1400W - 10A - 10,000RPM
hilti dgh130 - 13000W - 3000-8600RPM
metabo 19-125 - 1900W - 3800-8200RPM
metabo 17-125 - 1700W - 2800-9600RPM

i feel like it comes down to discs then. which to answer your question some are used for stripping siding, flooring tile residue, epoxy/paint residue, polishing

it's a tough purchase, and i'd rent one if i were you. in my area there's none for rent, they provide only regular grinders with dust shrouds

Superior dust extraction
Adjustable rpm
Filter on the air inlet of the machine
For those in 110V land that need to use two circuits and already have Festool vac with BT; the new RG130 has Bluetooth
Connects to Festool hose
Comes in Systainer

My brother did buy a Makita... the seller nor Makita could tell him what hose (or adapter) it would connect to (Festool hoses didn't fit)... I couldn't figure it out either at distance because it was some weird size. I advised him to return it, pay 100 bucks more and get the Festool... and the rest was history.

Price differences might be bigger on the western side of the Atlantic ocean.

The spindle connection isn't that unique... so if the Festool discs are (I have no clue really) they can be used on some competitors too I guess. Again; not sure, I haven't checked any offsets vs dust shrouds etc.

I’ve been using mine a lot lately and on a tool like this, the dust collection superiority can’t be overstated. If grinding down a slab and the tool is in full contact with the surface, DC is so good I’d feel comfortable not wearing a mask (still do tho).

Just for comparison I've got the Makita PC5000C and it's absolutely superbly powerful to use, dust collection also is fantastic. I last used it on large sections of a driveway and there was zero dust escaping. I'm extremely happy with it. The very solid metal case is a ripper too.

Metal cases rust and their corners cut, destroy and scratch everything you bump into. The plastic boxes aren't that bad..
