Not exactly a question - or a tool review - but a quick "thank you" to the Festool crew for today's Roadshow at the Axminster store near Sittingbourne.

Good to get lots of advice on the items I don't (yet) have. Still pondering which router would be best choice for me (but a bit closer now), though now also tempted by other new tools. I went on the train and walked from the station so as to reduce the amount of stuff I could buy and carry away! (Still managed to spend a heap of dosh though...).

Thanks too for the free gifts.

(Axminster staff as friendly and helpful as ever - I hope the event worked out well for them too.)

Euclid,
Did you see the new "Sawstop" table saw replacement for the cs70 ? If so, did they mention a release time?

Hi, the TKS-80 with SawStop tech is being demoed at the road show events, and it’s planned release is late 2020.

whats your take on it? any real improvements or new design features catch your eye

Yes, the saw with the SawStop feature was there; I had a chat with Phil about it, but in more general terms really - I'm didn't think to ask about availability.
(I had been looking at the CS70 previously - and also the Erika - but still haven't convinced myself that I need one.)

Also - the idea of buying a Sys 'trolley' to get other purchase home did occur to me at the time! But I mangaed to restrain myself...

Hi Ron, I think it's a great way to give European customers the chance of buying a saw with such a tried and trusted safety feature. The 80mm depth of cut was something i liked, as I've considered an Erika for a while due to option of an 85mm depth of cut. The motor seems very capable, and I'd imagine even cutting 80mm hardwood it should be more than adequate. So it seems a very nice saw generally but, I am a fan of the push/pull facility on these sort of saws, and it seems that because it has the SawStop technology, the trade off is, it cannot implement the push/pull facility. Unless a later design will allow it but, because of the cartridge and brake, I don't think it's possible?

There wasn't any mention of price but, release is planned for late 2020.

I did actually think of you at the roadshow, as early attendance meant not only a goody bag but, also a free tea or coffee, and a bacon roll, with a choice of ketchup, sauces or Mustard I also think hot dogs were available!  [big grin] [thumbs up]

Mustard, heehehe funny story about that, I was the D&M show with a bud and I met Peter Parfit there. Peter wanted a photo of us and took it. Just before he took the photo I ate a hotdog with mustard and as Im the sloppy guy I am, some mustard dripped onto my shirt, I cleaned it off but the photo has a nice big stain where the mustard was..
Peter dont let me forget it and I keep bringing it up to him. [big grin]

Im thinking the cost for the CS70 will be about the price of the Erica. I wonder if its going to come in a 110V model. If so, I might consider getting one

Ron, thanks for clarifying the mustard story, I knew there was one but didn’t know the full version.
I must confess, I’m a lover of hot dogs, topped with onion, mustard and ketchup, and have messed up a few shirts as a consequence!  [big grin]

The TKS-80, I’m not sure it’s going to replace the CS70 or CS50, I just think it will offer an option of the deeper cut, and obviously the safety?
I think because many, myself included are fans of the push/pull Festool will keep the CS50 and CS70 going, or even  revamped versions?

Pricing the TKS-80 inline with the Erika could prove difficult, as the Erika has the 85mm cut and push/pull facility but, it doesn’t have the SawStop technology?

In honesty Ron, I think for me personally the Erika 85 would be a better option.
I very nearly bought one today but, I have laid out an obscene amount of money this year. We had to replace stuff, mainly machinery and it is what it is but, need a few invoices to be settled up for now. Then if the piggy bank allows, I’ll search Erika out wherever she is.  [big grin] ;)

Ive been trying to figure how to come up with the cash myself. It really is a nice saw

Yes it’s indeed a really nice saw.
Usually if we need something, I’ll buy it but, I’ve held off on this for quite a while now. Perhaps it’s more a case of want, than need?  ;)

Me to. Ive been useing the CMS w the TS75 module. It does a good job, not a great one but a good one. the quality of cut isnt as nice as I expected and hoped for when I bought it. I thought it would be as nice as a TS 75 on a guide rail. But after spending all that cash, I can see taking it in the shorts and selling it. If I did sell it I would still have to come up with more money to buy the Erica.

Tbh Ron, I’ve heard mixed reports on the CMS with a 55 or 75 mounted, and I am really wanting a more traditional table saw set up, as opposed to a module. I have used a CS70 a lot, and really like it, and if they offered it in 85 or even 90mm I’d take a serious look.
I am impressed with the power and quality of the cut, and the machine generally. Weighing up what’s currently on offer, and the coming of the TKS-80, I still feel the draw of the Erika.

The CMS is doing its job. I do have to clean up the cut when needed. For that Ill use my jointer or my festool 850 planer.

But yeah Ideally a real stand alne saw like the Erica or CS 70 would be preferable.

I only use it for thin rips. by thin I mean no larger than 14" wide.

But it does the job.

So unless aunt Matilda keels over an gives me a huge inheritance.

ill be using the CMS for a very long time.

I don’t suppose you see many used Erika’s across your side of the water, the used ones are rare here two.
The last one I tracked down was sold an hour before I arrived. It wasn’t a pleasant drive home.

I havent seen a used one for sale yet. i do cruise Craigslist and Ebay occasionally and nope. I can get them new, but not used
