Though I would love to have an LED light on my OF1400, and all my other routers for that matter,
I would not make a mod like this. Not because I couldn't handle doing the work but I prefer not
to make modifications of this type to tools. It may be perfectly safe it's just my preference. If others
wish to do so that's their right. They just need to accept that they have voided any warranty.

However, if Festool put as much effort into adding the features that users have requested for years
as you imply they put into quashing any such mods from being shown here people wouldn't be
attempting these mods and sales would probably increase. I know I would probably sell mine and
go buy the new version with the light. On my DeWalt cordless router which has an LED light I find
it very useful.

I don't have any Festool routers (I don't use my routers unless I have no other choices), but it's a clever use of the sewing LED light ($10?) by the OP. Such kind of modification is beyond my technical ability.

Is the light hot-melt glued to the router?

For a less invasive alternative, I used some of these on my OF1010.

BUTTON LAMP Adhesive LEDs

I had to do some modifications to them to make them fit better to the underside of the router, but the work pretty well and aren't too expensive.  Probably easier on a OF1400 since it's bigger.

For a less invasive alternative, I used some of these on my OF1010.yes hot glue I'm used to fix it, done same way light on festoo router 1010 and makita trimer RT0700CX

Is this still conflict-free at full plunge depth?

Rewiring a precision tool so you can blob a grotesque pile of hot glue/silicone/whatever all over it and bodge on a Chinese LED cluster? No thanks. I’ll stick with the anglepoise lamp I shine on the router base on those rare occasions I need some illumination.

The way I did it, you loose about 1/4" of plunge depth on the OF1010.  Looking at it, I could probably move one LED it it ever became a problem.  See picture.

I also use a button light as a source of spot light, but not for a router. I put the light on the DF500, using magnet and magnet strip so the light can be removed when not in use.
