FESTOOL RS 2E

Not showing discontinued for me on FESTOOL USA’s site...called FESTOOL yesterday was informed it wasnt being discontinued. Weird...

That is weird. I was going by jcrowe1950’s post from yesterday morning on this thread.

Looks like they indeed are phasing this beast out...just ordered another one!

Too bad...another great sander gone. I am on my second one - the first one died after 4-5 years. I suppose I could send it in for repair  - I tried to take it a part but was not successful and had to buy another for the project I was in the middle of. I checked several sites and it does not appear to be available from anyone any longer.

Unbelievable...all the major retailers are sold out on this item already.

Amazon, Woodcraft, ToolNut, Acme, Highland Woodworking, Lee Valley, everywhere the cupboards are bare.

Maybe the newer Euro version with the Plug-It will make it here in a Systainer³ ?

Glad I bought mine off Ebag a while ago at a great price.  I planned on replacing my Makita which I still have.

It is a great sand for sheet goods. This is quite a loss unless a replacement is due. Plug it makes no sense on these just as it makes no sense on the OF2200.

If anyone is in the fence I would grab one of these before they are gone.

There are quite a few left over here in Sweden at a vendor. They are all on about 20% sale. Apparently a customer ordered FIFTEEN of them with a pallet of papers and never picked them up... (He had bought a few before and was going to ship them to Africa for a project).

I have been eyeballing one for some time and the papers are very cheap too but I don't really have use for one. It is a chunky beast and I seldom need to flatten stock that way so I am not tempted though I have heard good things about the machine.

Hmm...I have one of these sanders as well...Just hearing this...panicked and ordered the hole punch plate as I wonder how long the abrasives will be available.....Also noticed Festool has a pad that allows you to clamp paper that does not have the proper backing for the stick fix...does anyone have the clamp pad and can say if it's worthwhile?
Greg

Makita takes the same size paper punch and there are lots of paper suppliers

I use the clamp pad all the time with a Vitex paper.....and the hole punch..it’s ultra durable paper

This sander as mentioned truly is a beast, and an absolute joy to use! The size and weight with the dusty hooked up means you simply guide it over the material, and with rougher grits it will remove a helluva lot of timber despite it not being an aggressive sander.

I bought mine new when they very first came out, and after so many years of amazingly reliable and constant use, the only maintenance required was to replace the well worn out pad! The sandpaper clips are also extremely handy.

Couldn't recommend this model high enough, far superior IMHO to the RS 300 which is only a 1/3rd sheet sander.

I agree, a great sander. The only negative thing on the machine for me is the hose port.  The oblong design isn’t the most secure fit.  But with some aggressive sandpaper, this thing is a beast
