Hello, new to the forum and have a couple questions on 2 sanders, the ro150feq and the ro est. They are about 10 years old and have worked great until the last year.  They will start up good and run for a few minutes before cutting out. Almost like the cord does not want to stay seated. One post on each port is dark like it is burned.  Tried 3 different cords with same results. Anyone else have these problems? Could it be something I am doing as it is both of them?  How is festools repair service?  Thanks

I’ve only had one experience with Festool service, Domino issue. They were great. I have a bunch of Festool products. Only one has required service over 10 years of use.

Sounds like a dodgy male plug-it connector.  It happens.  Not at all unusual, nor even to be unexpected.  Send it in for repair.

[member=67228]donduck2[/member] The socket housing can be swapped out for a new one, and depending on your comfort level tinkering with the insides of a machine, this is something you could attempt yourself.  Though you will probably have to network through Festool at least to get the proper part if the socket housing is different than on the newer models of your machines.

I've swapped out the socket housing on my ETS-EC 150/5 and the RO90 -- the first was easy but the Rotex was more of a challenge, but I did manage to get the repair done.

This is a known problem with the Plug-It cord. The burning is due to a bad connection, which caused arcing between two contacts.

Like ear3 said above, you need to replace the sockets, but also the cords of the tools themselves. Do not use the cords anymore with any tool, or you can spread the "infection". Once a cord goes bad, you need to bin it.

You can order the sockets yourself and replace them, it is an easy fix, you just need one screwdriver. But only if you're sure you can do this, or else you better let Festool do it.

On top of this website, in the menu, you can choose Additional Websites > Spare Parts Catalog and find your tools, with an exploded view drawing and parts list.

Thanks for the replys, that would explain why both went bad in a short amount of time.

You can replace the sockets as others have mentioned, but arcing goes both ways.  The cord(s) might also now be affected.  If you use a cord that is damaged on a good tool there is a very good chance that you pass the electrical disease along to even a replaced tool socket.  In your situation with multiple tools having issues I would suspect that the cord is in need of replacement as well.

We call it the plug-it virus in Festool, cause one bad cable can affect many machines, after recent upgrade of cables, this should be obsolete, but also there is option of using 457410 and 492780 at least EU codes.
