Festool Second Hand Prices

I've just seen a pair of used Festool quick clamps (FS-HZ 160) for auction on eBay and with 7 hours to go the bidding is at £68 with £5.52 for P&P, that's a total of £73.52.
A quick internet search found a new pair can be bought for £69.04 from Anglia Tool Centre.

How can new ones sell for less than a pair of used ones?

There's still 6 hours to go if anyone wants a pair of rather well used looking clamps for about £4.50 more than a brand new pair. This means they are absolutely brand new, straight from the factory and never ever been used and abused by some heavy handed nutter ever in their entire existence as this is absolutely totally impossible. I'm not saying anything about the vendor - I'm sure he's as surprised as I am - and he's a very lucky man to buy them, use them for a while and then sell them for probably more than he bought them for - I'm just saying that second hand clamps costing more than the new ones is a little bit mental.

Remember eBay advise that most bids happen in the last few minutes in the bidding frenzy.

You can buy lots of my tools as I replace them and all at a real bargain price of just a small percentage more than what I bought them for. If you prefer I can arrange for the tools - once paid for in full of course -  to be passed on to you via a very heavy handed horrible fat nutter I know of who will make sure they are very well abused for you at absolutely probably no extra cost.

Sounds like shopping in pawn shops for tools. Really beat up for almost new retail, one wonders how they sell anything.

I think Festool second hand prices are just fuelled by some misguided and almost cult like euphoria around their quality and longevity, that even secondhand tools are still so amazingly reliable that even a tiny saving is worth it.

I regularly see used TS55's selling on eBay for almost £300, when you can get a brand new one for £349. Used CTL Midi's gong for £250 + £20 shipping when you can get them for £295 brand new and delivered.

For me if I am to contemplate buying second hand tools, they need to be in good condition and 50% or less than I could buy brand new.

i have a 240v Kapex thats 6 months old thats had little use i can let go for £800 if anyone wan'ts it - will even through in the laser to blade calibration i have done for free  [big grin] [big grin]

I shop a lot on Ebay and see this kinda thing with most every product line. Long time ago I was once trying to buy my g/f a MP3 player and right in the ad it said contact me for price of $80. It auctioned for $115! The other day I was looking at Milwaukee battery chargers as I have been contemplating one of their LED lights with free battery (I have Makita for 18v). So the buy it now price is $24.49 from one seller. They routinely auction out at over $30.

After research I pick my top dollar price, load it into my bidder and loose way more auctions than I win. Sometimes I get rewarded with killer deals though! Patience is how you play the game. I will load 6 auctions of the same item into my auto bidder, and might loose all, but sometimes I win the last one for the price I am willing to pay. I have even gotten a couple of Festool items from Ebay for a good price.

Here in the states I saw several TS 55s for sale on EBay without a rail or systainer go for very high prices. I always started with the cost of new, then deducted the cost of the systainer and the cost of the rail. After that there was a deduction for being used and added shipping costs. If there is a systainer and it's a classic I assume there is no warranty. One more thing look at the picture or picture too often the tools look abused.  That's how I ended up with a new TS 55 R. I guess there are a lot of folks who do not check what the actual retail price is and think EBay  prices are lower.

This seems to be normal. So buy new festool with confidence in the high probability you can resell them for near what you paid. (Especially considering the price increases every year)

The clamps sold for £68 plus the P&P of £5.52 so a total of £73.52 - about £4.50 more than the price of a new pair. I have also noticed how many used and heavily abused Festool items have sold for daft prices on eBay.

When I sold my OF1400, Rotex 125, Carvex 420, a CT Midi and other Festool items on eBay I got between 75 to 85% back on the purchase price, but I will say whatever items were collected in person it was great to meet the buyers as they were all total Festool nuts and each time we had very long talks about just the one subject - Festool - which brings me on to the subject of this FOG forum and what a brilliant thing it is for the wealth of information and ideas which has been a huge inspiration to my work as I'm sure it has to many all over the world. All good stuff and I love it...
