Festool service rules!

I just got a MFS 400 yesterday and when I attempted to put it together the for the first time, I discovered a problem.  Normally, the screw that attaches one profile to another resides inside a sleeve that allows it to free spin so it can make up the nut that attaches it to the mating profile.  3 out of 4 worked fine. However, on one of the 200mm profiles, somehow the end of the sleeve was threaded and would not allow the screw to free spin.  This resulted in that profile not being able to be mated to another.  I called Festool and spoke to Steve at first and he had never heard of that happening so after awhile David called me back.  We decided the easiest solution to try is to get a drill bit and ream out the sleeve slightly to removed the threads and restore the free spinning aspect.  He said that it shouldn't have come that way and I shouldn't be having to fix it so as a remedy, he asked me what I would like as a consolation.  At first, I thought a pair of 700mm profiles would be nice but then decided that might be asking for a bit much.  [tongue]  So I settled on some extra router template guides and he threw in a replacement drill bit for the centrotec 3.5mm countersink.  I didn't have to ask for this, they wanted to  do it.  It's going to be a 5 second fix, I figured initially that is what I needed to do but I decided to call them first to make sure.  This stuff is expensive but it reminds me of when we had a Lexus, when it comes to service, there is none better.  It's all included in the price.  My hat's off to them again...

I spoke a bit to soon about the 5 sec fix.  The metal they use for the sleeve is extremely hard.  So hard that a brand new drill bit used with a 1/2" corded drill wouldn't go through it.  Some hard stuff.  Rather than spend a lot of time trying to figure it out, I notified Bob and he made sure I got another set coming my way.  No problem at all with the service, haven't changed my mind on that at all, but still a bit disappointed that I can't use the set right away.  It's been extremely cold here the last few days (cold for N. Texas  [sad] ) so the garage is too cold to use at the moment.  Looks like I'll be waiting for the UPS man again.

Those pesky reverse threaded inserts that Festool has a part# for and refuses to sell but won't admit it. I spent hours on the phone with Festool Sweden and Germany trying to track down a replacement.
Finally, I was comped a whole extra 700 profile for a remedy, which made-
3- 700s
2- 1000s
6- 400s
2- 200s
get yourself a small round file and remove those threads. It's always nice to have an extra. I already nicked one with a spiral bit.
