looks like Festool is starting a sharpening service they claim a 1 week (7 working days) turn around .

Not a lot of info out about it yet.

But I do need to get a blade sharpened

If it's not operational yet, and you need a blade sharpened, Leitz has excellent service, and they make the blades for Festool. I sent them a half dozen a few months ago and they came back as good as new.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Festool has worked something out with Leitz. I'd read that Leitz was readying a facility in Indiana.

Entry to the game is not just the price of a CNC sharpening machine but also all of the ancillary machines/tools that are needed to fully service the saw blades, plate straightener, insert brazer, et al.

I got this email this morning:

We plan to go live in 2023, unfortunately I can't give you a specific date yet. As soon as we have more information we will share it with you.
Sorry you have to be patient a little bit longer.

In the mean time we are working on the pricing. What would you consider a fair prize for the sharpening of a saw blade?

Thanks
Tim

I'm in the UK. My local cutting tools sharpening guy charges me 12 pennies per tooth. He has 2 x CNC machines including one which has an auto-feed blade stacker so he can load up 200 regular-thickness blades and leave it running 24/7 , plus all of the other equipment listed in another post above. He's into over £750k in machinery. He does around 10 blades per month for me (TS55, TS60, Dewalt DWS780, Makita LS0714) and can handle anything from a 100mm microsaw blade up to the monsters used by the three local sawmills. His shop also fabricates custom cutters and limiters for my spindle moulder. His prices are negotiable depending on how much beer and how many cakes you take him.

Here's a quick tour of the Quinn blade sharpening shop just to give you an idea of the equipment that's necessary. The days of a simple saw blade mandrel fixture and a motorized cup wheel grinder are long gone.  [smile]

This was a very refreshing diversion over my lunch break.  Thank you for posting it!

My local sharpener here in Canada charges $20 US (sales tax included) for the Kapex universal saw blade plus about $5.5 US per tip replacement, if applicable. Checking for run-out and bent shoulders included.

Wow. Thanks Cheese, much appreciated the video. It’s amazing what goes into a sharpening job.

Thanks to both of you...I try to post things of interest for the wide ranging interest of the entire community...education is the name of the game.  [smile]

My particular interest in this subject started 7-8 years ago when I emailed Forrest and asked them if they were willing to re-sharpen Festool track saw blades.
The reply from the GM (Tony I believe) was that they were willing to sharpen competitors saw blades but that they were unable to sharpen the Festool blades because their equipment wasn't sophisticated enough...oh boy...that started me down another rabbit hole.

So, fast forward and Forrest is now capable of sharpening Festool saw blades but at a capital equipment cost of what, $250,000 plus, probably? Better their nickel than mine.

I guess my point is this stuff costs money, despite it seeming to be just another "service".

Quinn Saw sharpens all our blades 12-18 a quarter. Never had one come back that wasn’t in excellent condition.

Tom

Cheese, I remember when you posted that Forrest wasn’t able to sharpen Festool blades.
About 6 month before your thread, I had them sharpen my Kapex blade.
It seem like they didn’t have the correct arbor size because it was sharpen out of round.

I use LA Grinding since after member Carol Adams suggested them.

Ouch...that had to hurt.  [mad]

In February 2020 I paid $25 a piece for three blades for my ATF-65 No retipping, just sharpening.

EDITED TO ADD:
I believe this is one of a few service centers nationwide. It's the closest to me.

Leitz has been great for us. We have a local rep who comes to the shop every Monday to pick-up and drop-off the previous week's blades.
We just kind of lucked into them after looking for a replacement company. A similar thing happened to us a few years ago. The service we had been using for nearly 20 years ruined several blades, all at one time. They were somehow off-center, almost egg shaped? You could literally hear that only a few teeth were touching during the cut. They did make it right, but it took a few days. Everything was ok for a while and then it happened again.  That's why they were looking into other services in the first place.
The advantage of the original company was that the salesman kept some "stock" on hand in his van, so you could buy new blades directly from him. He even had a fairly decent selection of router bits.
The Leitz guy doesn't do that. He can sell new blades, but they have to come from the home base, not his truck. It only takes a couple of days, but instant was nice.
I have no idea what it costs though, I don't pay it  [unsure]
