Festool (South Africa) warranty claim

I have bought 8 Festool items since 2006, each time religiously completing the warranty registrations, always wondering whether they were worth the paper. Then I lent my almost 34 month old BS75e belt sander to a friend who used the sander extensively  and, as is always the case when I lend a tool, it packed up within 5 minutes the next time I used it myself.  I called Festool Service in Johannesburg and faxed them my warranty confirmation and original invoice.  Two working days later their courier service collected the sander from my office in Durban and it was returned a week later via the same method.  No charge.

Can't fault that.

Glad you finally got the first post under your belt.  Good to hear about some good service from South Africa.

Yeah, I don't think it will be coming from me :/

Sean,

did you buy your tools online or via a local dealer?

Thats really good to hear. I've had really bad experience with Festool SA and find them to be no where. Maybe all my emails to the new owner (of about a year I think) finally is having some effect.
I spent a small fortune moving over to Festool and I'm very happy I did. I love my tools. But since the "new guy" bought the importership, it has been really bad. Most of the retailers here in Cape Town complain about them too.
Thats good news. Thanks for letting us know things may be improving.

Yeah, my dealer complains about him. It's nice to know that A) I'm not alone in the bad Festool service of SA and B) that my dealer isn't lying to me :/

Hello Chris,

I bought my Festool equipment from local dealers in Durban and in Cape Town.  I have bought other tools from the USA and Sweden online without problems.

I was just curious because here in cape town I buy from a local dealer and whenever he gives me a tool it never comes with a warranty card. I assume that he fills it out. This worries me :/

How did you manage to order a tool from the USA and use the power socket here with it?

I dont know why all my other SA boeties moan about bad after sales service........Oh wait i know why.........because non of my tools have ever packed up so i have never had to deal with them  [tongue]

Hi Wayne

Other than my ts55 needing brushes, no problems with the tools themselves. But, trying to get a specific systainer or additional sander, centrotec bits, 105 Belt sanders, add-ons for my existing tools. Most of the time, I'm  the "Rep" for Festool. The dealers are way behind on what Festool has to offer or what is available. Reallt frustrating. Also concerns me regarding having spares in stock when I really need them.  [sad]

My dealer also has no clue on new products coming out, I asked them when the C15 would come out when i was there and they said oh we have one of those here, i was surprised until they brought out the T15 instead............they had no clue what the C15 was. [dead horse] [dead horse] [dead horse]

I know this is bad but this is so reliving. Man I always thought it was just my dealer. He sells the stuff but doesn't know, I guess it's because Festool isn't that popular here?

You know when I ordered the new housing for my RO125 (after that whole saga had to pay R500 :( ) my dealer changed it and then told me "we should have made a plan and just glued the protector on the old housing" ... Makes me sad.
