Festool ssu200 sword saw

I have a festool sword saw that I punched last month as I have lots of insulation to cut on my current contract but it doesn't seem to run that well off a generator am I doing something wrong ???

Your not doing anything wrong, Most festool don't play well with generators, it's the mmc electronics, and the sine wave generators produce. They also don't like lower range power supplies, I had a job in the sticks they had a voltage drop down to 210volt my ts55 didn't like it at all.

My guess is the continous rating of the generator is not enough. A 3.4 kva generator will have a continous rating of half that roughly. Also when starting up the sword saw will also draw more power putting more strain on the genorator. I take it the saw runs fine straight of 240v

oooo the Festool one is crap you should of bought the Protool one a lot better...... colour!    [tongue]

As said already Festool dont like Generators I had problems with my Kapex wouldnt work at all only got my lasers to work.

I have never used my Protool Sword on a generator so I cant comment.  

Mine is 240v I assumed when they changed to festool they would make 110v versions but they havent.

Expensive tool to just cut insulation.

Ill be using mine for a lot of insulation soon but I bought it for cutting oak beams originally been dead handy for cutting curves in 200mm thick oak beam.

It's a 3.5 kva genarator we won't be getting mains power for while as it is costing £48000 because it coming from half a mile away, will running it off a genarator damage it

I wouldnt do it.  Im pretty sure it causes damage.    Its like some tools they come with a warning not to use long extension leads over 30metres because of power drop which causes more wear on the motor etc.   

Tools not getting enough power is like a tool getting to much power I think.

I'm no expert on generators. Some will damage but not all. I've worked on jobs in the past where they used industrial generators , but they can be serious money I take it your other tools work fine. Maybe an idea to speak to a company like steephill who specialise in generators they might be able to advise
