I received my FLIR ONE thermal imager for my iPhone today. Here's a picture of the CT26 exhaust port after running for 30 seconds. I'll post more images of other tools tomorrow.
The fit and finish is exceptional and the app is functional. The range isn't that great but the images are greatly enhanced due to the fusion of the thermal an visible images that reveal practice details including taxt as you see in the images above.
The images below illustrates another practice use. I have a flickering light fixture in my workshop. Using the FLIR ONE, I'm able to 'see' the problem. One of the bulbs has gone bad. No wasting time troubleshooting.
This is by far the least costly thermal imager on the market.
I was trying to decide between this, the thermal 'seek', and another model of flir, but I think the $100 off deal they are offering has swung me back to the flir1
They do have some great ones that have much higher resolution and more features, but the flir1 is a fraction of the cost of the low end stand-alone model, yet matches the features. They're able to do this because they are leveraging the iPhone platform. I'm looking at it for DIY stuff so I don't need to spend the $3K+ for the better ones.
Nov 23rd to Dec 1st. Note, these are only designed for the iPhone 5/5s
I picked up one since I have radiant tubes buried in concrete and was doing some remodeling and wanted to make sure I wasn't going to hit one of the pipes. But also great for checking for air leaks....and to see if the dogs were sleeping on the couch [smile]
One thing that I don't like (or have yet to figure out), is how to have a static dynamic range on the color map. Things will show up hot if they are hotter than the surroundings, even if it only a degree or two, if it is the only hot thing in the scene. So sometimes it makes the color seem hotter or colder than it is. But it's been a really helpful tool!
It's probably cheaper to pick up a semi-broken iPhone 5 and use it as a dedicated camera. Maybe one that's been blacklisted or something, but can still sign into iCloud (I assume you need that to get in the App Store).
