Festool tools on Amazon Warehouse listed as Renewed

Occasionally I like to browse Amazon Warehouse for deals and for those unaware they discount returned items or items with damaged packaging. In the past month I noticed they started putting this (Renewed) label on some of the tools. Curious as to what that meant exactly I called Festool USA, and it was the first they heard of this. They informed me that despite the wording on Amazon's site, none of the tools were coming back to Festool USA for servicing and/or inspection. To the best of their knowledge for a power tool it meant at most someone was turning it on and off. When asked about warranty on these tools, the CS woman at Festool USA said "Buyer beware." Reading between the lines I think you'd be at the mercy of the 90 day Amazon Warehouse "Renewed" guarantee or possibly the Manufacturing date on the tool, whichever is longer, since the 3 year warranty on Festool power tools runs 3 years from the date of manufacture if proof of purchase (as new) is not available from a recognized dealer.

The woman I spoke with relayed this with their person that deals directly with Amazon and I believe they're working toward handling this. As it is to the uninformed it's very misleading.

Amazon is still posting the link to Festool’s standard warranty lower down the page at that listing for the “renewed” TS 75.

If someone buys a tool from Amazon and returns it does the original warranty diminish? (Whether or not it is spiffed up prior to re-selling) I think Festool’s policy is that the tool is warranted for 3 years from date of sale (if documented) or from manufacturing date if not recorded.

That was just the quickest example I could find [member=44099]Cheese[/member] . For comparison they have an OF 2200 for ~$745.90. That's a $970 tool.

The general understanding I left the conversation with Festool USA is that these "Renewed" tools are not eligible for the Festool 3 year warranty. When pressed a second time about this the woman repeated to me "Buyer beware." Since they were caught off guard by this situation they didn't have an answer or policy in place.

You have to wonder if someone failed to paste in all the info on the router page or if too much was added to the TS 75 page. Buyer beware indeed.

Amazon Warehouse  - items sold as used, no warranty but you have 30 days to return an item for any reason

Amazon Renewed -  90 day warranty "pre-owned, refurbished and open-box products that have been professionally inspected and tested to work and look like new by Amazon-qualified and performance-managed suppliers. The inspection and testing process typically includes a full diagnostic test, replacement of any defective parts, and a thorough cleaning process carried out by the supplier, or by Amazon. Which brings up the question - I always thought that the Festool 3 -year warranty was transferrable.  So if you bought for an example a used router on eBay, and was still within 3 years of when the item was first sold, the router would still be under warranty?

With as good as festool makes their products, id chance it to save some money.  Especially when their products rarely ever go onsale and give you a chance to save some money.

Someone might want Amazon over another vendor for free (sort of) one or two day delivery.

Amazon's 30 day "whatever reason" return policy is pretty good insurance against getting a DOA or ugly duckling. 

Festool's 3 year warranty from manuf. has got to be in place since its serial number & manuf. date dependent if you don't register and don't have a receipt, or bought second hand.  Certainly the warranty period will be diminished if the tool is new(ish) old stock that's been sitting around collecting dust and you can't prove purchase from an authorized dealer.  Like the RAS115's that are on sale now. Those were built long ago and have been sitting collecting dust even though they are brand new.  3 yrs from build date is just around the corner.

Keep in mind , Festool's own recon, refurb., renewed program only gives you a one year warranty and NO thirty day return for any reason.  All sales final for a 10% discount.  This Amazon deal looks to be about the same or even less risky to me.  But, I'm not buying either for a 10% or less discount. The economics just don't make sense. For me anyway.

I couldn't resist the deal on the OF 2200 and picked one up to add to my ever-growing mountain of Systainers and the ongoing eye-rolling of my wife every time she enters the garage.

It arrived today and I went over the packaging and contents, plugged it in and did a basic power-on test; I'm in a residential area and don't usually get home from work until after dark, so it'll probably be this weekend before I get a chance to actually try it on anything.

The router arrived in what looks like a resealed original Festool shipping carton (with branding). The Systainer inside was completely undamaged and looks and smells brand new. The interior contents were missing the 24mm spanner, but otherwise all accessories were included and undamaged. The router itself has some trivial cosmetic blemishes on the plunge rails and a tiny bit of scuffing on the handles, but otherwise appears (and smells) brand new. Ejecting the baseplate and carefully looking inside the housing and in nooks and crannies with a flashlight, I couldn't find any trace of sawdust; if this router has ever actually been used, Amazon's refurbishers did an amazing job of cleaning it. Spinning it up briefly, it sounds (and smells) like it's working fine.

The router has a manufacture date of May 2019, so presumably it's still under original warranty for another two and a half years.

All told, my impression at the moment is that I got a $200 discount in exchange for giving up a throwaway spanner and six months of warranty I've never had to use on a Festool anyway. I'm pretty happy with that.

Edit: One more thing to add: another reason to buy from Amazon (including from Festool authorized dealers who use Amazon Marketplace) is that you can get an Amazon credit card that gives you a 5% discount on everything. At the prices of our favorite Festoys, that adds up pretty fast...

The Festool wrench looks like the tool Seth linked, which is nicer looking to me than the Bosch wrench.

If I were buying a wrench I'd get the RA 1152 from Bosch. It's offset in case you ever decide to mount the router in a CMS it's a lot easier to use.

I suppose I should have expected no less. Still, this gives me an excuse to buy a nice new Gearwrench ratcheting 24mm. Have to have an extra to leave in the Systainer, dontchaknow.  ;D

Joking aside, I’m really keen to get some time to play with the new toy this weekend. I love my 1400, but the idea of a router that can mostly replace the need to swap dado blades in and out of my table saw is tantalizing.

Was there ever a definitive statement from Festool regarding warranty status on Warehouse and/or renewed tools? I don't see one in this thread.
