festool trion jigsaw

Hi guys,

Festool sent the rep down yesterday.
We discussed what i was doing etc, and tried some other blades on 18mm ply.
There is no alternative blade from what i am using for tight radius work, but i can use another blade for 80% of what i am doing.
The quick blade change facility makes this easy enough.

3 of us discussed all aspects of what i am doing, and it wasn't until now that i realized the blades were breaking on a straight cut, and very early too.
It's bloody freezing in my converted pigsty, and i think that as the blades are very cold and then heat up very quickly when used the breakages may be a result of
acute temperature change too ??

I will try a bimetal blade soon and see what happens....

Surfmirrors, what did the Festool reps have to say about your broken blades?  I have a very hard time believing that a temperature differential or temperature shock is the cause of your breakage.  Did they give you any specific recommendations?

haven't been on here much, been busy workwise, and a new baby !
anyway, re blade breakage with my jigsaw, thru' the summer i have broke less blades than thru' the winter thats for sure.
same materials, same blade model number, but my local toolstore hasn't has festool blades in for 6 months or more (he still owes me a pack)
so i purchased dewalt blades.
breaking about 1 a week at the mo, so will be keen to see how many thru the winter also....

I know the saw blade very well, as i used it in some tests I did with the PS300 and PS400 saws..
all i can say here is, the saw blade is very.. very.. sensitive to torque momentum outside the saw axis.. that means turning it to quickly or not holding it very steady could just break it.. (broke 3 so far during my tests.. )

But you can significantly improve cut quality and livetime of the saw blade by using the splinter guard, as it relieves the strain from the sawblade.. I know, you had problems to see the saw line with the splinter guard.. (One of the the reasons I'm not owning the Trion anymore..) but if you move very nice and slow, you can see fairly well on the little notch at the front of the splinter guard..
AND
------> Make sure, you always protrude the material with the saw blade in any position of the saw (up or down..)
