Festool USA Suspends Direct Product Sales Effective April 2008

As long as its easy enough to get needed accessories ( without too much delay) , I don't have a problem with it.

I called the Canadian Distributor in Calgary. I intend on buying a Domino. While speaking to him I had the Rockler website open. The domino and Systainer is about $130.00 more in Canada (based on a par dollar) than just south of the border.
I get irritated with the price disparity between Canada and the US so I decided to wait until I am in the US again. I usually go a several times per year.

Its just the principle.

If this principle matters, I would not wait much further to take advantage of any price advantage in the US.

Actually Hafele in Canada used to have their prices 40% higher then the US and no one understood why. What bothered me was the lack of knowledge and effort by the sales staff.  I don't mind paying more if I feel like I am getting more.

I've got two friends who both bought Rotex sanders since Hafele dropped their prices and it would ave been very convenient to order them from Hafele but after talking to the sales staff at Hafele they both tool a half day out of their time and drove across the border to pick up sanders.

These same people now want more Festool's but refuse to buy from Hafele and can't be bothered to cross the border everytime they want a tool so they are just not buying anything Festool related.

Its not the price. Festool seems to be the same price everywhere in the USA. Hafele arent tool guys, they dont offer service or product knowledge and cant answer questions ... sigh.. They are 380 miles away..

To pay more because someone has an exclusive isnt reasonable. Its a poor setup. I get down to the US every couple of months anyway.

I think what I am offended by is the US dealers being stopped from shipping to Canada so the Canadian can overcharge. Especially when the Canadian isnt really that interested in the product in the first place.
