Festool Vac-Sys and planers

Hi,

Does anyone use the Vac-Sys system in replace of a bench vice?  I don't have a proper workbench and was thinking a Vac-Sys on my MFT/3 might allow me to hand plane boards, etc..  Does this seem like a reasonable idea?

It would work with electric planer for sure. And probably with short boards and hand planes. For long boards and hand planes would probably need to add an extra support at one end at minimum.

I haven't tried it, but I suspect it would work okay if you used at least 2 units mounted to a heavy bench. The suction is very powerful, but so is the leverage on a long board.

They will hold just fine but it will be spongy and sub-ideal for hand planing.

For lighter work e.g. chamfering edges it works well.  The capability to swivel while holding the workpiece in a vertical orientation is ideal.
