im  looking to purchase a festool extractor but i am confused as to which is the best size hose to use and as to which extractor to buy can anyone help me make my decisions any questions welcome

What are the different hose diameters for?

The D27 hose works on all tools but the HL850 planer and on all cleaning sets except the Industrial cleaning set. The D36 hose is recommended for the router, planer and cleaning sets but will not work on the sanders or the Industrial cleaning set. The D50 hose is used on the Industrial cleaning set and can be connected with other hose diameters to create a longer hose.

As to which extractor to buy, it rather depends on what tools you are going to use it for (eg sanding or planing?), where you're going to use it (eg static in a workshop, or taken up and down three flights of stairs daily), and how often you're going to use it (eg just on occassional weekends, or 8 hours a day, 5 days a week). At the moment the question is rather like asking "what car should I buy?" 

If you could tell us a bit about your intended use, we'll be able to answer more effectively.

THanks for your reply i will be using the extractore everyday on site using it hooked up to my routers my saw and my sanders
i do alot of solid woodworktop so i do alot of sink routing grooving etc

can you use a 36mm hose on the sanders ?
does the midi have a 36 mm hose ?

Forrest gave you good info.

Yes, you can use the 36 mm hose with the sanders, IF you use an adapter. But you may find that 36 mm hose a tad bulky  for use with the sanders. You said you will be using  the CT with the routers, no question I would suggest the CT 22 over the MINI or MIDI for said applications - the 22 easily takes the 36 mm hose, has more suction, HEPA filters and a larger capacity tha the MINI/MIDI.

If you think you might ever want to add the boom arm, http://www.festoolusa.com/products/dust-extractors/other-accessories/boom-arm-492753.html,  that can only be added to the 22 or 33.

At the show I went to yesterday, the CTMini barely worked with the OF1010 router with the chip catcher. Was using the small hose and chips flew everywhere. Really surprised at that. I also am thinking of a smaller vac - have the CT33 - but now rethinking as the Mini just did not perform with the small hose. Don't know how the Mini compares to the Midi.

Believe they use the same vac but the midi is a little larger in capacity....

The Mini and Midi have the same suction, different capacity. The 22 and 33 have the same suction, different capacity.

I don't think you need any reducers, normally a 27 mm hose comes with the vac, and the end of that hose will fit on the sanders, domino etc., and if you get the 36 mm hose aswell, the end of that one will fit over the dustport of tools that can be used with both the 27 and 36 mm hose.

My suggestion would be to get one of the cleaning sets that come with a 36mm hose, the 27 mm hose clogs very easily at the start of the hose when used for cleanup.
I have the 36mm non-antistatic hose myself, I got that after I got my Kapex, but the improved dustcollection is noticed most on the OF 1400 and my planer.
I don't know if you need the antistatic version for your intended use, I do know the price difference is considerable. (And I also read that if you intend to cut stuff like azek, it's best to go with the antistatic
(BTW the 27mm hose that comes with the vac is always antistatic)

secon of all would i primarlily need the 36 mm hose for routing and cutting
and then the 27mm hose for sanding ?

You'll want the 36 mm hose for routing, planing, Kapex, and possibly TS saws. For sanding, the 27 mm is all you'll need or want (it's lighter and easier to maneuver.

As stated, you can get a 36 mm hose with a cleaning set.

And you can make up a short length (about 12 inches) of 27mm hose for an adapter.  I did this on my Boom Arm/CT 22/Dust Deputy, using a 36mm hose on the Boom Arm.  Both ends of the 27mm hose adapter are equipped with Rotating Connectors Item 452892.  The adapter is a friction fit into the tool end fitting of the 36mm hose.  Thus, it is very easy to remove the 27mm adapter when I want to use the 36mm hose with my router, and to reinstall it when I want to use any tool requiring the smaller 27mm hose fitting.

hi, i have bought the CT-22 recently, i have had a few vacs over the years, makita, hitachi, pullman, my biggest regret is that i didnt buy the festool first.

i would recommend the CT-22. it is not too big, i find it easy to throw in the truck, and bring on site when needed.

i am very happy i did not buy the smaller midi, it just has not got the capacity i needed. the one thing i was not happy about was paying AU$360 for the long life bag, a very expensive plastic bag!
i know  i will recover this money in the future because i wont have to buy any dust bags but it was a painful experience handing over that amount of money for a plastic bag. (i am sure someone will want to tell me its more than just a plastic bag!)

its great having the variable speed, i use that feature all the time, i am thinking about buying the Y connector so i can run 2 hoses, does anybody use this?
i would like to know if you loose suction or is it fine?
